@AggieMomhelp
Hello there, i am a transfer applying to Tamu material engineering spring 2020.
Calc1-3, ochem 1-2, gen chem1-2, univ. phys. 1-2, diff. Equ. With all A’s on them and 70 credits on transfer audit with a 3.86 gpa. Great resume and recommendation letter… what do you think?
I think you should pack your bags and head on over, lol. Seriously a very strong candidate profile. I assume you essay was on point with your why engineering and why tamu? Depending on current competition, you should not really have a problem being accepted, but do keep us posted please! good luck!
@AggieMomhelp
Okay thank you, and let me say that you are doing wonders on this site with the reassurance you provide these kids. It can be a stressful time for a young adult. Thank you for taking the time to reply and God bless you.
Awe @dtlnw1991 thank you for that. I often wonder if I do any good. I do love to help if I can and it’s so great every year to get so many amazing students that want to attend Tamu. I love living here and the students are a big reason why!
Hopefully y’all will hear soon!
Do we use this thread for PSA students transferring in Fall 2020 as well? Or should we start a separate thread since the situation is kind of different and would be easier for other PSA students to follow?
Ooh great idea @jaceyk There were so many last year that took this option, it may be a good idea to start a new thread just for psa “transfers”. = )
Hello. I plan to apply to TAMU as a computer science major (my 2nd major should be statistics) in next January, but I have not still been able to find any info on letters of recommendation.
I’m sure they’re not required but are they still considered or highly recommended?
Not required. Can’t hurt tho.
Thank you so much for the information. So would you say that TAMU has the same stance on LORs as UT Austin’s? UT also recommends applicants to submit LOR(s).
I don’t think TAMU puts a ton of weight into it. I can’t compare to UT. I do know they’ll only read/accept 2 of them.
Hi, my goal is to transfer into TAMU Fall 2021. my major would be community health. I’m not sure how competitive it is. Say I end up having a 3.5 gpa. is that good enough to be accepted? Btw I would have a pre nursing track so I would transfer in with about 50 credit hours.
@Shahzahra101 Have you following the Transfer Course Sheet?
https://web-as.tamu.edu/ecardimages/publications/2019TCS/ED19-Health.pdf
A 3.5 GPA would seemingly be just fine with minimum being 2.75 but no guarantees. I would recommend contacting the advisor and maybe they can provide some input. I would also keep in touch with them through the process if you have questions. It shows interest and then they may know your name when it comes through for consideration. The transfer applications are evaluated by the individual colleges and not general admissions like they are for Freshman admissions. Good luck!!!
Yes I have been, Thank you so much!
@AggieMomhelp I see. You have been so helpful for potential applicants of TAMU!
Having said that, I am expecting to get a B in one of the core computer science courses this semester… According to the transfer guide, as a CS major, I am only required and recommended to finish Cal I, Cal II, Univ Physics I, and Gen Chem I. In my view, this ‘B’ will affect my chances of getting into TAMU in a bad way. I finished all the above 4 courses and my Cum GPA is now 3.92. I have no idea how the admins will take it into consideration…
@yochio A B is not a bad grade at all, especially with all of your others as As. A 3.92 is fantastic. I don’t see you having an issue UNLESS others applying for ETAM are guaranteed CS. I honestly don’t know how popular it is during the ETAM process. I typically hear about ME and EE the most.
Keep working hard and keep us posted.
@AggieMomhelp I have seen some people with a perfect GPA getting rejected by College of Engineering so I even think of retaking the computer science course because my school allows me to do so to replace the B with an A, and I have enough room to take it again next semester.
I will ask one of the former Aggies for a letter of recommendation so hope that will help a bit…!
@yochio tamu will use every grade you have to factor into the gpa whether you take it again or not. LORs are good, but don’t count on it helping too much. You need to go meet with an advisor in CS so they know your face. Talk to them about retaking it as well. And when you apply, your essay needs to be compelling as to why CS and what you can bring to Aggieland and what you will do with your degree.
@AggieMomhelp That would be very helpful. As far as I know, I should visit one of the advisors listed here (https://engineering.tamu.edu/cse/advising/undergraduate-advisors.html), shouldn’t I?
@yochio The is aggiemomhelp, couldn’t log in as myself for some reason. Yes, visit and eng. advisdr at tamu! Then in you essay, reference that meeting and the person you met with’s name.
Howdy, I plan to apply to transfer to TAMU for the fall 2020. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and am applying for economics (BS). I’m a little worried about my essay and I also will be deferred to my spring grades as I finish up the required courses this spring semester. How does this affect my chances? Thank you.
