@Stimmer64 With PSA, A&M will offer you what system school they will allow you to complete the PSA through. Some applicants will be offered all of the system schools and some only one. If Tarleton is on your son’s offer, then accept that admissions through A&M. Otherwise, he would be a transfer student subject to transfer criteria and not PSA criteria.
@Ross2729 Would you mind sharing your stats?
PSA (Pathway through System Admissions) at A&M is the same type of program as CAP (Coordinated Admissions Program) at UT.
@PleaseGod2022 I don’t know the dates of scholarships. Not my area of knowledge. I do know that departmental scholarships for OOS tuition waivers can come out as early as March/April and the remainder as late as July, way past the date to accept or decline admissions. A lot of folks have to take leap of faith that they will get the remainder they need or pay OOS tuition or decline the admissions offer if they do not get the 4K before May 1.
Ive been reading for months and have decided to start asking questions. @Thelma2 can you answer some questions for me? My daughter applied on Oct 26 she is in the top 30% of a highly competitive school. She has a 3.9 GPA and made a 31 on her ACT. She has a chronic illness which we have been dealing with since the middle of 8th grade. It has been horrific and the fact she has done as well as she has done is amazing! She was in cheer for 2 year and has been in NCl for 6 and NHS. She applied to Mays and second choice is sociology. All 3 essays were done and the essay on the application was filled out about her illness. She has Ben accepted into every school she applied to plus she got the CAP program at UT. We are starting to struggle waiting as A&M is the only school she wants! I keep hearing Mays is full. Do you know if they could be holding her application to see if any spots open up? Should we change her major? She still has both majors in AIS. Any suggestions would help!! Thanks so much!
@coachjen14 I know you asked for Thelma2 but I’ll put my 2 cents in based on what I’ve seen in the past. Mays is definitely full and unfortunately, they do not hold open spots. I think your daughter’s stats are awesome and while yes her ranking may not be top quarter, it’s extremely close. Add to that all of the hardships of having to deal with and handle a chonic illness is impressive and shows just grit and determination. I do feel that they are looking heavily at her essays and that component along with her ACT score will set her up nicely as Gateway or even possible Full Admit. Sociology is not full and not an impacted major so she should get that choice of major once accepted. Please keep us updated. I’m pulling for her and you!
How do they decide what campus to PSA you thru? Was there a checkmark on the application that you needed to indicate interest or are you automatically considered like TEAM? Do you they just pick the campus closest to your home residence?
@AggieMomhelp so since her first choice (Business) is full, it won’t keep her from getting in? Do they first look at admitting her and then once she is in then they will look at her major?
@coachjen14 Yes, most definitely. My son got into Ag Bus (has now switched to Econ under Liberal Arts) but his first choice was Mays. He got in Dec. 15 and Mays was already full at that point.
They admit first to TAMU then slide you into major on availability.
@coachjen14@AggieMomhelp is correct. Applicants are admitted to the university first and then to their desired major. If that major is full, they are placed in their second choice major. If that too is an impacted major, and is full, they are asked to select a major from any that are open. Having Mays as her first choice major has no bearing on her being admitted to A&M.
A&M does not consider the competitiveness of a high school. They want to compare each applicant to their own peers.
@mamma3g TAMU There was nothing on the Apply Texas application for PSA. TAMU uses predetermined class rank/test scores minimums to qualify you for guaranteed admission at various System Institutions. Most students are eligible for automatic admission at all 8 System Institutions, but some students aren’t.
The daughter of an acquaintance was top 15% at a large high school with a 1320 SAT and was offered PSA last year for Animal Science. She attended Tarleton. Sadly I heard she left after her first semester despite earning a 4.0. She did not know anyone there and was still dissapointed that she did not receive full admission to CStation. Makes no sense to me since she was halfway to earning a spot. I think if you want it bad enough you will find a way!
@MomHopesNxtGenAg My son’s major has not changed to general engineering. It remains CVEN. We kinda got our hopes up with the change in Program under the manage application page. My hope is that change means he has been accepted by the University and he is now under review by engineering for the civil engineering track with is what the “GCE” means in the BS-CVEN-BCE. Who knows. He turned in his application about 10 after the early decision deadline.
@trinley OK, I see what you mean. Yes, you are the guinea pig for the -GCE situation. The folks that believe they will be offered Galveston may all still be “In Review” on the main AIS page. I’m not sure anyone should really start finalizing any plans based on this. I would be interested in knowing whether any of the -TEAB folks (as shown in Manage Applications) are still “In Review” on the main AIS page.
Your son has a good math score, and I am betting he’ll be offered a spot. I truly hope that he gets onto the main campus through one pathway or another. My son likes the water, has done a little bit of diving, and even had a failing grade in one course one semester of early high school. He wants to be in the Corps. Galveston (and I hope we are reading the tea leaves correctly) would be a gift for him. Knowing him to be impulsive, I also really hope he could stay out of trouble in a smaller setting.
In the last two years, about 37-38% of those offered Galveston engineering actually go down there. About 300 out of 800 accepted the first program year, and about 454 out of 1200 this last year.
I have information on the Corps at Galveston from an email from the commander there if anyone else is interested.
@MomHopesNxtGenAg I went to A&M (class '92)and my best friend from high school was in Corps outfit B-2. He was a Bonfire Red Pot and his outfit was perimeter guard for bonfire so I got a front row seat that night. His son is a sophomore at Galveston. Initially was going to go just one year but loved it and stayed. The Corps is not for everyone but if you can get through it you have friends for life. If he goes into the Corps, get him a sleeping bag to sleep in as he won’t sleep under his sheets on his bed…
