TAMU Holistic review candidates Class of 2022

He’s had an 11-12 year continuous scouting career. Sleep bags are no problem. Thank you so much for the advice.

Please tell me that the Corps will help him find better self-control.

@MomHopesNxtGenAg Thank you for contributing such GREAT information!!

@MomHopesNxtGenAg My son is a freshman in the Corps. What I have found is that the Corps is so restrictive at times that they go a little crazy when they get freedom which is more often than you would hope (after the first few months)! I was hoping for a full of year of them being on lockdown! lol

@TXagghopeful1 mine did not change when I was admitted. Only indication was 6 tabs that morning.

@keydeeloo: Glad your warned me but sorry to hear it! @Thelma2, we can see that you have been patiently helping everyone for more than just this year; thank You. Hopefully everyone can leave this forum this evening and enjoy Valentines Day!

@trinley BS-CVEN-GCE: Civil Engineering - BS, General Civil Engineering Track
I copied and pasted this from an excel sheet online at ucc.tamu.edu/UCC/media/UCC/documents/2017/12-December and then the link runs out. If I click it,downloads the excel sheet. The excel sheet is titled Course-Programs-UCC-Agenda-December-2017. Maybe you can google it and find it. It is listed in Cell 459

I see where several comments indicate Mays is full - what source is this based on?

@Classof82 Mays advisors and Admissions. This is reliable, sadly, as that’s my son’s top choice. It filled up in November with Auto and Academic admits. My son even went to a meeting with someone in Mays to see if there’s any way… they said after freshman year, lol. Oh well.

@Classof82 Jon, an Admissions Officer on TexAgs has stated this many times over the several admission cycles that Mays fills up by end of Nov/early Dec, as people are admitted to the university, they are placed into the major. For this year, that began on September 20. They take 1000 freshmen students each year.

This is my 3rd admissions cycle on CC to help parents/applicants with the TAMU process. There have been applicants already who were admitted in Dec to the university but placed in their second choice major, because Mays was full. Happened to a good friend of mine whose son applied late Nov (Tamu class 2018) being an Auto admit and was denied Mays, because it was full.

Thanks @AggieMomhelp and @Thelma2 . My son is in the same status - wanting Mays Business with Economics Liberal Arts as second choice. He applied back in July 2017. His status on AIS remains as “applied and under review” with location as CS.
hope it works out for everyone!

@classof82 maybe our sons will be friends lol. He’s now Econ!

@AggieMomhelp - maybe so! i hope he gets full admission into the main campus - then we face the housing hurdle!

My son applied to Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M and was notified this week he will be going to Galveston. He also received a CAP offer from UT. Galveston was not his first choice and I am seeking some advice from all of you on what you would chose. Blinn -Brenham offers the Engineering Academy as well and from my understanding after speaking to the Brenham director their program is exactly the same program as the Blinn-Bryan Program. The goal is to maintain a 3.5 GPA and obtain his first major of choice when he transitions to CTAT his sophomore year.

A little background: Our son is from small town population 2,089, attended a parochial school with a graduating class of 28 very COMPETATIVE kids. He is ready to venture off on his own and not necessarily worried about having someone he knows at college with him which is what he says now, but 3 hours from home and needing a 3.5 GPA could turn out differently. At Brenham he is in proximity to friends already at A&M, Blinn Team and closer to CSTAT.

  1. Do anyone know A&M methodology regarding who they send to the Engineering Academy v Galveston?
  2. Would you choose Galveston and if so why?
  3. Would you choose the Blinn Brenham Engineering Academy and if so why?

Our son is our first college guinea pig and we are trying to guide him in the right direction. I have read numerous posts in here and know the benefits of both programs, just wondering what yall’s thoughts would be. Thanks:)

@Thelma2 Thanks for the link, I found the spreadsheet. What is interesting is that CVEN has 8 tracks including the GCE (general Engineering) which is what freshman would take. The other 7 tracks listed include different specializations within CVEN such as transportation, coastal, structural, etc. All of these CVEN majors have different 3 letters at the end of BS-CVEN-XXX. Also listed on the spreadsheet is BS-ENGE for freshman engineering. So what does all this mean? Who knows but id did find it interesting. Please nobody interpret this post as a sign that if you have BS-CVEN-GCE in the Program field of Manage Application that you are admitted to CS. This is just more tea leave and entrails…we are still waiting. If we do get good news I will post it ASAP.

@tad1985 Not sure of the methods they use to decide. Galv program is full admit and due to space at CS. We are in similar boat, just received formal Congrats Admit letter this evening but still weighing other school options (SMU and OU). Son agrees A&M is probably best option and we live in between Galv and CS so same distance to both. The acceptance letter makes clear the Galv program is FULL admit to A&M College of Engineering and only due to space at CS.

Not sure I answered your questions but we (my son) is still processing as we just found out this week and he had already resigned himself to selecting one of the other options. Now more options. A&M is the best engineering school of the three he is considering and the cheapest, closest.

@tad1985 I would choose Galveston without a doubt. Galveston is full admittance to TAMU. If he decides to stay at Galveston to pursue something maritime related he still gets an Aggie ring. He is an Aggie. Think of it as an overflow campus. The admission requirements are the same as CS. If he chooses Galveston he just needs to maintain a 2.0 and pass all his classes to transition to CS his second year. Blinn will require a much higher GPA. At Galveston you can still get Football tickets etc. My friends son goes to Galveston and loves it and travel to CS for games. Also don’t underestimate the difficulty in getting a 3.5. That first year is rough. Even very gifted kids will have to work.

Does anyone know if Animal Science or Zoology is full? I applied in November and havent heard back at all. Also, if you have also applied to those majors what are y’all’s stats?

Have any out of state review applicants heard back yet

@AnimalLover445 it seems a lot of us are waiting for science acceptance. Hoping they will come out in the near future.

@DFWAggie18 Yes, Hopefully soon!
