TAMU Holistic review candidates Class of 2022

Has anyone accepted into engineering at Galveston been able to apply for housing?

@Tank9850 Yes, I was a OOS review admit and was given full admission to the College Station campus. I am also a 4 year Army ROTC winner and I asked them to expedite my decision so that likely made me an exception, not the rule.

My daughter was accepted in December. She is a zoology major. 11% out of 199. Scored a 25 on ACT. Completed all three essays. NHS, HOSA, lots of volunteer hours at local vet’s office, mission trip to Uganda, part-time job 2 years, Texas A&M vet camp this past summer. Hope this helps. Good luck to those still waiting.

Can I expedite my decision??

@classof82 no housing hurdle. Regardless of when accepted you have 30 days to get priority housing status! He will be fine.

@AggieMomhelp I don’t mean to be a downer, but the priority housing status actually fills up. Last year, it filled up on 2/1 and it changed to “guaranteed” housing status and we were given three choices. There’s another status that it changes to once guaranteed is full, but I can’t remember what it is called. Maybe it becomes “wait listed” at that point. Either way, rooms do free up and become available.

I agree with @kaydeeloo . Priority housing does fill up. My daughter had applied within the 30 day period but she got Guaranteed housing status.

Ah, that does bring back memories from the past @kaydeeloo @goaggie There was even someone who received temporary housing when they got to campus, in one of the study rooms until a dorm room was secured. I think they get that settled fairly quickly, like during Howdy Week or first week.

However, all y’all should still apply within that first 30 days because your housing app is still time stamped.

Has anyone received acceptance/rejections for Political Science?

@Thelma2 … I’m giggling at the thought of my son living in a study room … he would probably LOVE it because that’s all he does anyway!!! HAAA! No seriously, hope everyone gets in the perfect dorm!

@kaydeeloo that is a downer. lol I have never heard that. That really stinks. I thought if you signed up priority then you were guaranteed. Ugh so yes more hurdles for later admits.

I do think they have accepted fewer than usual at this time of the year so maybe that’ll be a plus when the acceptances do roll out. See… trying to spin a positive

The 3.5 GPA applies to Galveston as well if he wants to be guaranteed the major of his choice.

Where do you see notification of priority or guaranteed housing status?

I don’t remember exactly but it was after we had started filling the form because I remember abandoning it mid way since my daughter was not comfortable not really having a choice. She signed up with Park West in the end. @labegg

We applied for housing last night. During the application process, it said something about “Guaranteed dorm/apt housing”. We completed and submitted it last night. I want to make sure my son is on campus his first year. He’s on the Blinn Engineering team (not Galveston).

Does anyone know about the “Living Learning” programs? They asked if he wanted to join during the residence application process. Is that something he should apply for? I don’t want him over extending himself his first year since Engineering is so time consuming. Any thoughts?

Good morning! Anyone receiving admissions this morning?

@Thelma2 Is there a thread on CC that is for newly admitted A&M students. I have a lot of questions, but don’t want to take up space on this thread because people are still waiting to hear about decisions. Thanks!

@GManmom23 We signed up for housing also but we did not choose the Living Learning due to concerns that it might be too much the first year. We did also sign up for the roommate finder process. Did you select one of the apartments or Hullabaloo Hall?

@debrajohn @GManmom123 My son lived in the LLC dorm Mosher for engineering his freshman year and, at least at that time, did not require anything of them. It provided free tutoring, not open to anyone not living in the LLC, and they lived with/met students with their own interests (engineering). There was nothing added that they had to participate in, it was just available for them if they wanted. Class 2020 was under 10K enrollment and there were kids on the wait list that got on campus housing. I read somewhere on TAMU, I’d have to go find it, that all freshman have been placed on campus the past few years. A&M has two apartment complexes, White Creek and Gardens? as well.

I believe it changed a little for class 2021, to a "village’ as they expanded to 2 other dorms (non engineering students can live in any of these dorms, it is just where the engr LLC is) I have not explored it at all since it didn’t relate to him but here is the link.

While there are opportunities to join, I don’t believe any are mandatory, just optional. This might be good for those engineer types that are not as social on their own.
