@tb2000 I never stated that UT is not educating Texas kids. I stated that they have lost focus. The overall policy issue is should the legislature use a large amount of higher education tax dollars for a more limited pool of Texas kids. I work around the capitol and know this has been discussed for several years by members of the legislature since UT began getting waivers from the top 10 percent law. The rate of our state’s population growth and the demand for education at a flagship university is exceeding the supply of spots. For example, my son was admitted to Auburn engineering (with $$$) which is a top 50 public university engineering program. After UT and TAMU the next ranked school in Texas is Texas Tech or UH which is out of the top 100. We don’t need a new university, we need another tier 1 research university. Otherwise, we will continue to lose kids to flagship universities in other states. TAMU is doing what it can to fill demand but UT is not. This is really left to another thread but wanted to make sure I was clear in my initial statement.

One thing to keep in mind about TAMU extending the application deadline for Harvey is that Chancellor Sharp heads the Governor’s Commission to Rebuild Texas and that is being run out of the TAMU systems office. sharp has been very high profile on this and I am very sure (as a matter of fact I was told) that was one of the factors that led to the extension of the deadline. It would not have been a good look for Sharp to lead the governors recovery efforts and not extend the deadline in case some students were impacted. In any event, i am not defending the decision, just offering an additional factor that was used to justify the decision. I don’t have an issue with it. Stress is part of life and the sooner these kids get used to it the sooner they will be prepared for the real world.
what is next change after button disappearing to watch for- do they send a letter and it posts in communications or shortly will AIS page change? If anyone knows from it happening to them earlier in the year?

@paag1234 - login to Hiwdy portal 2. Go to Applicant tab - on that drop down menu select “manage applications”. You will be taken to a different screen. Select the link “manage applications”. From there you will see “active applications”. Those of us noting the change, we only have “withdraw application” button remaining. In the past there was a button that would allow a change of major. Hope that helps.
My son’s change major button is also gone. It was there this morning. All else is the same
