TAMU Holistic review candidates Class of 2022

It sounds like no one here got 6 tabs… meaning that unless someone pipes up, no one likely got an admission to College Station or Blinn Team at this stage. Not to be even more pessimistic than I already was, but hopefully I’m wrong about that. Would reflect poorly on the system in general if they were waiting all this time to just send out PSAs.

According to others on this thread, A&M outright rejects very few candidates, and almost all of those are due to incomplete applications. That being the case, I am hard-pressed to understand why it would take all this time to just get a PSA (which let’s face it, is essentially a pseudo-rejection).

Again, hopefully I’m wrong.

i think we will know more late tonight or tomorrow.

@boysarebest If your son is doing engineering (like mine) and wants to get to A&M i would suggest either PSA if it is offered or the Engineering Academy at Blinn in Brenham. With PSA and Engineer Academy you are garaunteed admission if you meet GPA requirements. If you transfer, you must meet GPA requirements and submit an essay and go through a review process all over again. The advantage to the Blinn Engineering Academy in Brenham is that you are co-enrolled at both institutions. You son can get an A&M sports pass and even participate in intramural sports at A&M. It is a 45 minute drive to CS from Brenham. Blinn is having a preview day Friday and we are attending.

While I agree PSA is a pseudo-rejection it does offer a smother path than a traditional transfer. Also keep in mind that in offering PSA, A&M must coordinate those offers with the PSA institution. Those schools are also admitting applicants separately. So, logistically it may not be a simple as we think it should be looking form the outside. It would make sense that PSA would go out last as some of those students may have been competing with TAMU admits for the few remaining slots and the also need to know how many slots are available at the PSA schools. Lots of moving parts most likely

Yep. Change major button gone on Manage Application page but still shows in AIS. Howdy still three tabs.

Since it appears that everyone seem to have the “Change Major” button gone from the Howdy portal, that it was just a blanket update to the system (Does seem kind of late to change majors at this point), and has not actual bearing on anything.

I want my daughter in College Station as much as anyone, but at this point all we can do is wait and see. We will be happy with a PSA, simply because she can go hang out at Corpus for a year make her grades and go to CS. Win-Win.

GHSMOM18 thank you
His first major is Modern Language-Russian and second English. He wants to be in the Corp so I don’t know if that plays into PSA at all.

@trinley - fair enough, and I appreciate your continued thoughtful responses. However I doubt any of the partner institutions have selective admissions. They can take all comers, especially those who believed they had a realistic shot at A&M given their GPA and test scores. In other words, I’d be shocked if Tarleton State for example, which has a fall application deadline of August 24th(!) would have trouble accommodating a small influx of students rejected by A&M. They’re not rejecting any of those.

But you make a good point that the transfer process is slightly smoother for a PSA student. So there’s that, I guess.

Seems like a blanket update.

So, I tried live chat. here is the convo. What do you know…I got to talk to Steve.

Please wait. An operator will be with you shortly.
Steve says:
Hello. My name is Steve how can I help you?
mom says:
I was just logged into my daughter’s Howdy portal and noticed that the change major button has disappeared. Was this a standard change or does this mean a decision has been reached on her admission status?
Steve says:
common change,
Steve says:
when a decision is made, it will be clear to her on her AIS page
mom says:
ok, thank you

Poor steve

Has anyone gotten a PSA offer last month or so or this year? Did it happen this way with major button disappearing? What was the next step- AIS update or a letter or ? I know of couple of people who still have the change major button so it’s not everyone.

Or did anyone that was accepted at any time ever have the major button disappear first? I didn’t think so from what I read but just think that would help us to know

ANY word on when incoming freshmen will be notified if they got in or not. My son is going nuts! As am I!

@CyRanchXfer I have a sophomore at Tarleton. Priority deadline was March 1st with scholarship application deadline mid February. You can apply up to August 24 but you most likely would only receive your FAFSA money. Tarleton is worth a look see. They are getting a football stadium makeover and a new Engineering building opening this fall.
Beautiful fitness center. 30 minutes from Granbury which would have similar shops/restaurants to CStation and 60 minutes to Fort Worth. The new dorms are nicer than any we saw in our 12 college tours.

As much as I wish it is a standard update - I feel it is PSA. Just by what has happened in previous years. I don’t think Steve can actually yes it’s PSA because we do have to wait until AIS updates. Really hoping it’s an update.

My son still has his change of major button in AIS. I’ve seen no changes at all since we started logging in 6 months ago. The wait is really getting annoying. I sure hope we hear something by spring break, which is Friday…

@CulinaryMom22 There are two different areas that have/had change major button only one seems to have disappeared.

In Howdy, Drop Down next to “Applicant” >> Choose Manage Applications >> Click Manage Applications on the Mange Applications Page>> Folks are saying there used to be a “CHANGE MAJOR” button under Active Applications.

Just called admissions. I could wait any longer. AIS will be updated with acceptances in 1-2 weeks. My be the party line. Who knows.

@Stimmer64 I think Tarleton is a great school. My point is that I doubt there is any coordination needed between the main TAMU campus and the system schools in order to “clear space” at the system schools for PSA-offered students.

Schools with essentially no application deadline are basically open enrollment. There is nothing wrong with that, they can be great places to go, and I’m not trying to say that they shouldn’t be considered. I was only making a point back to @Tinley that I don’t think this loooooong delay in making decisions by A&M can be attributed to coordination efforts with the other PSA schools. That’s all I meant.
