Is anyone looking at Corpus Christi in the PSA? My daughter is looking at going there or Blinn. Seems like a decent sized school and has actually outgrown their little island. We really enjoyed our visit there. The only issue with making that decision quickly is that her major does not participate in PSA.
I would love to put my daughter in touch with anyone looking at Corpus.
@CyMom4
Looks like my son will also be at Tech. I was excited to see Tech has chartered shuttle busses back and forth from tech and home for Thanksgiving, Winter Break, and Spring Break to all major cities. It’s around $60 each way and that’s cheaper than if I drove with meals, gas and hotel.
We have been watching informational YouTube videos about Tech and they have a lot of great info. It’s the only school he applied to that we didn’t visit.
He also received a great financial aid package. If he isn’t happy he can always apply to transfer into TAMU!
Can you transfer in to TAMU after 1 year if you will not have your 24 hours until end of spring semester? The deadline is in March. Do they wait on your spring semester grades or do they use midterm grades? My son may have 24 after the fall if they count his AP credits.
@Stimmer64 I believe you can count the in progress courses toward your 24 credit hours. It’s important to remember that it is the department that you are applying. Call the department that has the major you want to apply to and they will give you the details. I believe University minimum to be eligible is 2.5 but that does not mean you will be accepted into the major as all transfers are competitive. Be sure to,ask the department what the “real number” is. They will tell you the gpa they look for. TAMU holds a Transfer day it is a good thing to go,to when offered.
Thank you @trinley
He is Modern Language - Russian, so I don’t think getting into his major will be an issue. We didn’t think getting in to TAMU would be one either though!
@Florine2013 that’s interesting she got a scholarship to Pitt since her stats don’t line up with their published threshold. She got a merit scholarship there? Congrats!
I agree wholeheartedly that Pitt is a much better choice than A&M or Baylor for pre-physical therapy. And I’m an Aggie with a kinesiology degree from A&M! I would love to go back in time and do my degree at Pitt. With all of those hospitals right on campus, the bioengineering facilities you would have access to…it’s amazing.
@Stimmer64 ap definitely won’t count towards the 24. Has to be gradeable hours. But yes they will count in progress. They may defer until final grades but that’s standard and If grades are good then easy peasy. I will also suggest meeting with the department advisor face to face if possible. Shows good intent and effort. And then in the essay, make mention of meeting with advisor including the name and something you got out of the meeting. They like to see passion for the major and what the student will do with that education. It’s really so different than applying as freshman. Refreshing actually if the student really knows what they want and are not just trying to get in with the easiest major.
Thank you for your help @AggieMomhelp
He has a choice of all the schools but there are no on site Air Force ROTC programs at any of them. Since Tech is meeting 100% of his needs, he wanted to explore the transfer option. If he likes Tech he could stay and finish his degree, if he doesn’t then he could transfer without losing a year of ROTC.
@boysarebest We absolutely loved Pitt when we visited last summer. It’s a unique campus and nothing beats Hogwarts (Cathedral of Learning) as a campus landmark! She also stayed in a college dorm in Shadyside for 2 weeks for a ballet program and experienced living in the city for a bit. Pittsburgh is a beautiful and bustling city!
@carachel2 Her scholarships are merit and need based at Baylor and the Panther Pride Award (need based) at Pitt.
Thank you for your insight into A&M’s Kinesiology program! It would have nice to have her closer to home at CS as an undergrad before applying to a PT program. Things have a way of working out!
@Mandog82
Read all the pages pack starting from Thursday of last week. LOTS of info there that is just too much to consolidate, as a lot of folks have been great to share their experineces and what they found in talking to the various institutions. Also included is the Pathway to Transfer admission (PTA) if you choose to go strait Blinn that has guaranteed admission to A&M.
If there is anyone that is considering as new options corpus christie to psa /or utsa to cap at ut/ university of houston. Would love to connect and share resources. We are still deposited at uark but need to do our due diligence on texas schools.
My son will be attending TAMU Galveston. Majoring in maritime admin and hoping to transfer to cstat after 1 year. If anyone has advice we would love to hear it. Also would love to connect with anyone in same boat
@Stimmer64 that is exactly what I told me son. If he loves Tech he’ll stay but if he doesn’t, he can keep his grades up and transfer. He’s super excited Luckily we put a deposit on his dorm - the Men of STEM dorms are already almost full.
@cottoncandy1. These maritime majors seems very interesting and different, with possible good job prospects if he stays in. Your son may be required to join the Corps of Midshipmen, the Corps at Galveston, with his major. Has he looked into this yet?
@Florine2013 ah that makes sense with the Panther Pride award.
Don’t get me wrong, TAMU has a solid kinesiology program. Their semester long required practicum before graduation is amazing and prepares them really well.
@CyMom4
The more I look into Tech the more it’s grown on me. They are super nice. They get back to you immediately! We have not been able to attend the Select Techs or Connect Techs, so when I called to see what we could do, they said because of my son’s 1300 SAT score they will set up a VIP tour and schedule appointments with his advisors, ROTC,
Scholarship, Fin Aid, Etc… whenever we are able to come.
We have a deposit down on a room for Learning Community for Modern Language, but that was before we heard from Honors College. Also Coleman is older and not as conveniently located on Campus. It’s odd though that you choose the room number. Not sure if your son is involved in church but I found a camp for incoming Christian students. This would be in addition to the regular camp.
@MikeSugarland. My son got accepted at TAMUG “engineeringn in Galveston”. We toured UTD last December and since then he had set his eyes on UTD. He likes the campus atmosphere and we think that the engineering and computer science programs are really really very good too. He was accepted to UTD in Nov 2017. Got the TAMUG offer last month only.
Good luck to all and cheers to all parents. As parents, we are doing our best to give our children an excellent future ahead.
Blinn - Bryan engineering academy. Does anyone have any experience with this program? What are some downsides of it?
I’m out of state, class rank 232/420
3.13 gpa UW, 8 APs, 1330 sat. Thought I’d get insta rejected.
Also, when should I expect to see financial aid info? I got an email today saying that they received my financial aid info, but the portal says they haven’t received it.
