TAMU transfer Fall 2027

My daughter wants to transfer to Texas A&M and is looking at Psychology, Public Health, or Sociology for Fall 2027. She has 42 hrs and an overall GPA of 3.4. Her major at another school didn’t require some of the prerequisites on the course sheets, so she is going to try to get them at Blinn next semester.

A Blinn advisor told her she has a very slim chance at getting transfer accepted into TAMU.

Does anyone have any insight into transfer acceptance odds for these majors? They’re not as competitive as some others, but when the advisor said she had such a small chance of acceptance, it really hit her hard. I was thinking she has a good of a shot as anyone, but since she has to complete some requireds in the Spring, is deferral to accoetance a real option for these majors?

note: she wants to go into a health profession so undergrad degree can be almost anything.

What is she lacking? Maybe A&M isn’t the right school for her.

It looks like Public Health wants higher math and science while Psych and Soc require foreign language.

Can you she apply a semester later or year later? If it takes her longer than four years, is it worth it to her?

Or if A&M’s requirements are too extreme vs. another school, maybe it’s not the right place. Most public health will require a lot of science - especially if it’s less policy oriented.

The over all transfer rate is over 50%.

All she can do is try. And only A&M can tell you - but why apply hoping for deferral vs. finishing all the required classes before you apply.

But other schools don’t have the requirements. At Texas Tech, she’s assured admission - and it seems like less foreign language is required for psych. And not before she gets there.

So it may be that A&M isn’t actually the right school for her - she should ensure the curriculum is what she wants, beyond I just want to be at A&M.

Good luck to her.
