D purchased a high-end tanning product to cover up her tan lines before prom. She was careful to buy one that was recommended by people we know and was featured in a prom magazine, because who hasn’t heard of orange skin disasters? Also, D tried it on a small spot first, as recommended, and it seemed to work very well. Then she tried on a larger area, and the results were great. Her back came out perfect, her chest is good but does have a few blotchy places, and her feet are streaked and orange. I recall that the product literature warned about rough and calloused areas holding more stain, but the streaks and blotches are actually on smooth areas.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get rid of the stains? We are going to try an exfoliating scrub.

Try exfoliating gloves with an exfoliating scrub. I can’t think of anything to try other than that. I feel so bad for her! Really, it’s not that big a deal … but I am sure it is to her!! Someday, she’ll laugh. Today is not that day, though. Best wishes for a successful exfoliation & a fun prom!

Thankfully, we still have 24 hours, lol.

I found this article online that recommends how to get sunless tanner stains off of various parts of the body… you could try this…

[How to Get Your Sunless Tan Off Safely and Quickly - Sunless.com](http://www.sunless.com/application/getting_it_off.php)

for future reference- I have had good luck either with l’oreal sun lotion ( in light) or the new neutrogena one with sun screen. ( I always use the ones that are meant to be used every day- not a tan over night)
As a redhead- I don’t tan ever and my skin is very thin so you can see my veins- very attractive
I don’t try and fake a tan, but I don’t want to look corpse like either.
I either use a scrub- then put lanolin cream on rough places ( knees heels etc), or all over, then after that is dry apply the self tanner. ( or if the self tanner doesn’t have sun screen I put sunscreen on first or else mix the two in my hand) Thin coats are much better than heavy.

After I apply it, I then use a cotton ball to blot the excess off from creases, & especially on inside of arms, backs of knees etc.
Ankles are one place that is tougher skin that turns darker where you have to blot, also make sure you wipe palms and inbetween fingers and toes.

( you could also try 3%hydrogen peroxide to lighten dark areas after the fact)

1/4 cup of lemon juice, 1/2 cup of salt and an aloofa. Then scrub like hell.

Rinse and repeat.

After that, use a lotion.

I think they are ALL risky. You have to be very, very good at the application. It’s better to go for a spray tan at a salon.

Thanks to one and all for the terrific advice! D got a pedicure tonight, which pretty much took care of the orange foot situation even though we didn’t plan it that way. We will try one of the other methods for the chest blotchiness.

For small areas that you really need to get rid of:
nail polish remover.
Obviously, proceed with caution.
