TAP Form

This discussion was created from comments split from: Do I NEED to fill out FAFSA?.

If my parent signs the TAP Form with it effect them money wise? Like, paying more taxes or not receiving taxes?

@Steveo91 If you’re talking about NY TAP then you need to fill out the FAFSA before applying for TAP. If you’re asking something else then search the threads or start a new one as this is about the need to fill out FAFSA.

I received financial aid already TAP is asking for my parent signature. My parent thinks that signing the paper will effect her taxes. Is this true?

Are you talking about the NYS TAP program or a different state? I think CA has a program called TAP too.

What does the paper your mom is supposed to sign say? We filed for the NYS TAP and I had to sign saying the info. was accurate to get the aid released. If that’s what the form is it doesn’t have any impact on future taxes. I don’t think students pay taxes on the NYS TAP Grant, but @sybbie719 could tell you for sure.

CA has Calgrant.

@Steveo91 if you want to receive a TAP award and are eligible, you MUST complete the TAP form, and the FAFSA.

Completing these forms will not affect taxes assuming that your parent was accurate and honest when they FILED their 2017 taxes.

It says one or more signatures are required for the completion of my TAP. It’s part of the signature page for NY TAP.

So…do you want a TAP award or not? If you do, a parent will need to sign.

Yes, you and your parent(s) must the TAP in order for you to be processed. TAP can only be used toward tuition.

My parent is also obtaining a college degree. will signing my NY TAP form effect her financial aid.

Is your parent worried they will, get LESS aid by signing YOUR TAP form? If so…no…not a worry at all.

The OP apparently decided that he did not feel that ToS applies to him, so no reason to keep the thread open.
