Target, etc. closest to Yale

Experienced New Haven navigators: I am looking to maximize time during move-in. Is it quicker to get to the Target north of Yale or west of Yale?

Isn’t this yet another question that the Great Google can solve?

They are both about the same distance from Yale. The Target in North Haven might be slightly closer if the traffic isn’t that bad on 91.

Google may not account for navigating in congested areas as it has led me astray on many occasions! Sometimes the longer way is the quicker way.

Google was only an example. There are quite a few navigation apps that handle the questions of travel time and periodic congestion.

@JustOneDad I traveled a lot in my last job so I am aware but I prefer a response from a person who has experience in area over a computer. Call me old fashioned!

Keep in mind it will be Friday afternoon rush hour. The parents of D’s roommate were gone for a very long time due to traffic on 95 to Milford. You may want to try to go in the morning. Not sure if route 1 or 15 would have less traffic.

Depends on where you are. If you are close to Ella Grasso Blvd, go south and hang a right to head west on Post Road (Rt. 1) and there you are after a mile or two. Right next to a best buy. It can get congested heading back at rush hour near University of New Haven.

If you are near 95 or 91 it’s all highway to North Haven. But that has issues too at rush hour. The Target there is near every other big box ever conceived by the mind of man or woman.

Go to North Haven. You can either go via Hamden on Whitney Ave or you can go 91 which is super easy to get on to and past the construction in New Haven. There is also a WalMart among many other stores that is technically in New Haven but its on the other side of the highway and is easy to get to. I would not bother going anywhere south of New Haven. Traffic is a nightmare as there is always construction. We do have a store that is called Chritmas Tree Shops that we found much of our college gear at and that you can follow a gps backroads to get to. All of these are less than 15-20 min from campus. Oh and dont forget Ikea. That is there too.
