target / reach recommendations and SCHOOLS WITH AID

my dd is considering an interdisciplinary major economics, policy, lit or journalism eventual goal investigative journalism or economics (NOT finance, more setting gov. policy for economics)

… we fall in that middle class that has enough to be comfortable won’t get federal aid but honestly with only ONE income + home school education costs for years can’t afford 60K a year.

stats:
SAT R/M 1520
SAT R/M/W 2330
2 APs sophomore year (lang/us history) 5s
3 APs jr year (lit/euro/micro) expected 5s
2 dual enrollment summer jr/sr year (macro/psyc) As
2 dual enrollment 4 years ago (comp 1/bio 135) As

all honors (except spanish) straight As, home schooled (except as noted above)

Seems like you’re looking for merit aid (since you are comfortable). Any chance your D is a Nat’l Merit Semifinalist?

Some high reach schools have very generous financial aid.

I suggest looking at Pomona and Claremont McKenna (PPE major) and running the Net Price Calculator.

We are in the comfortable middle class according to most definitions and we qualify for generous aid at the high reach schools.

Be sure to take SAT subject tests as many colleges require them for home school students.

Start looking by the limiting majors. If your interested in the actual majors of joirnalism or public policy then start there. Look at schools where here sat are in the top quarter. Also always check with the admissions office on homeschool requirements. My son only needed subject tests for 1 school. I would send samples of course desctiptions that they would accept instead of what was on their website. Georgetown, U of Richmond, and claremont have reputations of not being homeschool friendly although that changes with Admission officers.
