Oh! And for the sake of entertainment (in hopes of reviving this suddenly decadent thread), let’s have an ‘OH CRRUD!’ TASP interview moment contest. Whoever had the worst wins! Please don’t make them up btw, the fun is in the honesty of the event =)

I’ll go first. I wanted to comment on a piece of writing I had found on the internet that was penned by one of my interviewers, which I thought was absolutely brilliant and I wanted to discuss it, and I mentioned that I googled her name! As soon as I said I was like… o m g, I sound like such a creep. The interviewer I had googled began blushing and said something along the lines of “Oh no!” The other looked really anxious and shocked, and said something like “I hope you didn’t see any of my college photos”, and I said, “I couldn’t google you, I didn’t have your last name.” I AM THE BIGGEST IDIOT IN THE WORLD! They both looked flabbergasted and burst out laughing, and I tried to cover it up by mentioning how much I loved the story I read, but I had the feeling that discussion wasn’t going to happen. I must have come off as such a sleezeball. Yup, that’s it, my award winning Oh Crrud moment that will stay with me for the rest of my life! Looking back on it, it’s kind of funny… but I guess my perspective might change when I find out that may have cost me TASP.

i forget the exact details, but it involved me saying something and then my interviewer doing the classic…but what if it had been in nazi germany thing, and i had some lame answer

and the part where he underlined the part in the tasp brochure where it said like “we are looking for community serving peoples” part and was like you don’t seem like this kind of person. explain.

HAHA uber, I’m sure most ppl DO google their interviewers, but just don’t tell them about it :D.

My OH, CRUD moment happened about 10 minutes into the interview. I was asked something about the politics of Chavez and Hu Jintao, and after about 30 seconds of rambling, I figured out I was probably WAAAAY off topic. So I asked my interviewer to repeat the question. Oops. blushes That wasn’t too great.

There was another not-so great-moment when I was trying to think of the name of a film I saw recently. For some reason, my mind just completely blanked out, and I could’t think of ANYTHING worth mentioning. After a few odd seconds, the interviewer just said “Wow, you look like a busy person. You probably don’t have the time to go to the movies anyways. I know I don’t”. blushed again oopsy daisy

Uber, ohhh my gosh. haha ouch. I didn’t even think of googling my interviewer. And her name is probably too common to find anything anyway… but AWKWARD! XD

I only had one ‘o crud’ moment except for my occasional rambling moment. I made a claim as one of the central peices of my argument and my interviewer remarked that he had written several papers arguing that what I said was not true. I don’t think it hurt me but I wish I had been better prepared to argue the point and it did make for an interesting conversation.
I don’t know whether to be optimistic or disappointed that UT Austin is so unpopular but anyway

i love how there’s one tally for michigan as the first choice (actually, .5 since i made michigan second) and there are 5.5 as the second choice (6). lol.

I think the thing with UT Austin’s unpopularity is that people who are that into science went the RSI route rather than the TASP route (except me! ;D).

OK, so I used the lists of 1st and 2nd choices, and combined them, giving twice as much weight to 1st choice as second choice. Here’s how the rankings turned out:

Crazy…who would have thought that the one on the 16th century would be the most popular? =O

Alright, I have a story to share about “Oh dear” interview moments. So the first question they asked was why I wrote about John Donne and not, like, Kurt Vonnegut. So after ranting for a few minutes about how he was an eloquent and romantic sonneteer but also mysogynistic, the eldest interview stared at me for a few seconds and then said, “But he didn’t write sonnets.” GAAAAAH. I just laughed uncomfortably and tried to redirect the conversation, lol.
