Tasp 2007

Whoever had the worst ‘oh crrud, did I just say that’ moment during their TASP interview wins!! Now doesn’t that sound like fun? Well then, how come more people aren’t entering?

lol. it actually does sound like fun.

I’m going to enter my oh crud moment from an interview for my first choice college since i didn’t have one for TASP.

interviewer- “wow you have a lot of community service hours. Why did you start volunteering at the library?”
Me- “I originally started for high school applications and never stopped.”

The oh crud moment came two seconds later when I realized she probably decided I have over 1200 hours of community service for colleges and colleges along. I love doing what I do and I wish I had just said that! Basically that whole interview was an oh crud moment actually but I think that one takes the cake. I’m thinking of getting an alumnae interview in the fall to make up for that one.

2290’s really high, so you should probably take it in may, even if you dont have that much more time to study.
that way you can take your subject tests in june

o_O
Founders College of Virginia
it’s new, and they have a rolling admissions process and then there’s this:

never thought i’d apply to college so spontaneously, just one 500 word essay and an application fee and i’ll be done lol

go nate. I’m happy for you

Oh crud moments?

I had lots. The best one…hmm, let’s think.

Oh, probably when they asked what I did in my spare time. I was like, ***? That’s not a very intellectual question…

I said I did the newspaper for fun. Lol. Then I realized how sad and pathetic that was, so I said I also watched Korean soap operas, and proceeded for the next five minutes to summarize the entire twenty hour show that I last watched.

Then I realized that was very pathetic too, so I said I hung out with friends. Then they asked me, where? I said I had no driving permit and neither did any of my friends, so we walked around and talked.

Then I realized how pathetic that must have sounded too, but it was too late to save it.

So basically I told them how pathetic my life was, lol.

yeah tako same thing happened to me! another crud moment!

They asked me the same exact question so I said I read a lot. Which is true, I love reading. However what I really do all the time is talk to people (okay more precisely one person) online while browsing this site but that doesn’t sound to good. So later on I tried to make up for my geeky anti-social answer when the interviewer asked me how my friends would describe me. I just said social and vivacious. I think that was kind of ■■■■■■■■. I still have no clue how the interview went and hope it went a lot better in reality than it went in my head.

Hehe and they asked me what kind of person I was (like funny one, outgoing one, leader, etc.)

I was like…“well, I like to think I’m funny (they laughed :)), but I don’t know about being THE funny one. I wouldn’t say I’m outgoing. Uhm…”

So they’re like, “UHHH okay think back to your latest group endeavor?”

I said, “hmmm…well currently juniors are planning a senior banquet for our journalism class.”

And they’re like, “Okay so what role do you play in that?”

And I was like, “Hmm I guess me and my best bud initiated it and are the leaders…”

And they’re like, “Oh okay, cool!”

And then me being stupid: “But only because nobody else would.”

^^ Why did I say that? Silly me -_- Now they must think I’m some lazy bum who only does stuff when she has to.

To be honest, I guess I am a so-called “leader” but I prefer to stay back and let others take credit. Haha, in one of my recs my teacher said I “lead by example” and I agree. I hate bossing people around, and if somebody else wants to be the “leader” then they can go ahead and I’ll just manipulate everybody into listening to me anyway but thinking that they’re actually listening to the “leader.”

Works for me :)

Wow, it sounds like everybody’s interviewers asked them a lot of non-essay-related questions. My interviewers asked me like ONE question like that (the role I have in groups, or something?) but besides that, evvverything was about the essays. Which brings up something else-- they only talked about two of the essays, didn’t even acknowledge the other two or the booklist. What about you guys?

We spent a LOT of our time on my ECs, debate and drama. From there it went to an essay where I wrote about heterosexist America, they asked me what about this society is heterosexist, and from there I think we spent the rest of the time arguing over gay marriage and the legal system’s role in moderating stuff like that. Then it was the group stuff, I guess.

So, uh. We hit one of my essays. Never even touched the book list, choices, or analysis, and the only time my topic essay and future essay came up was when I mentioned one or the other in passing.

As for my Oh Crud moment, I guess I’ll just elaborate on what I mentioned before:

We were arguing over whether it was right for the legal system to outlaw gay marriage, and they got me into a position where I was saying the legal system should butt out unless it was protecting someone, keeping someone from doing something dangerous. One of the interviewers mentioned that homosexuals have a much higher chance of contracting AIDS. I responded by saying the government should have the right to prosecute unprotected gay sex.

Ooooops. =P. I took it back, but I got a very surprised look from one of the interviewers, and they all started to talk about their college experience in dealing with AIDS when it was first becoming an epidemic.

Ah, I wish they’d have asked me about my ECs! I could talk about martial arts or running forever…

“One of the interviewers mentioned that homosexuals have a much higher chance of contracting AIDS.”

UM. Most of the new AIDS cases = heterosexual women.
And…sooooo? Does that mean a child playing with a knife should be prosecuted, too? If he was just saying it to have you defend your point, okay, but if he actually believed that was an ARGUMENT, I swear I would poke his forehead repeatedly while screaming.

And so? It’s their business, just like smoking…sort of. If you want to have unprotected sex and possibly get an STD, you can do it. Be DUMB and ■■■■■■■■ and do it, but still, your choice. If you’re heterosexual or whatEVER and go having sex with people you don’t know or sex with people that you don’t know are STD-free, you’re just stupid. YES, because risky sexual behavior is STUPID. Go ahead and do it, but don’t complain that OMG I GOT AN STD or OMG I GOT PREGNANT or BOTH. Dang people. And women who get abortions like BIRTH CONTROL deserve to be slapped silly. In rape cases, it’s…fine, I guess, especially if it’s done early…but MAN. Some women have already had like 3 abortions. WHO DOES THAT?!! Jeeeezus.

Got it, kids? NO UNPROTECTED OR RANDOM SEX.

[/endrant]

And outlawing gay marriage is stupid. If they don’t want to call it “marriage” because “marriage” is a “religious” term, so be it, but give gay couples the same rights. It’s only fair. Separation of church and state my BUTT. Urgh. Seriously, WHAT do they get out of banning gay marriage or civil unions or whatever they want to name it? Nothiiiiiing! And if you disapprove of it because it goes against your religion, don’t get one! It’s not something YOU should have a right to decide for other people! “Yes, your marriage is not valid because your wife is a stripper.” Whaddafux? You don’t choose who gets married!

Aarrrrgh! And to compare homosexuality to pedophilia or bestiality is the biggest idiocy ever. Two rational, consenting adults versus human/animal or adult/CHILD? WHAT? rages in the comment box “deeeviant practices”. Well, thankyouverymuch, certain sexual practices that are pretty darn commonplace now were “deviant”. Sodomy, anyone? That includes ALL sexual practices that are NOT intercourse. Half the human population = sodomites. Jeez! Sex is not just for procreation anymore! Earth is overpopulated anyway.

Gosh.

Why am I ranting at 5 AM?!

ohhh aida. “Got it, kids? NO UNPROTECTED OR RANDOM SEX.” but, but…

anyways, my ohhcrud moment. i think i had like, ten. but the physics professor was asking me how e.e.cummings’ christianity figured into his poetry, especially since i argued about transcendentalist ideals in ‘anyone lived in a pretty how town’. so i kind of evaded the question (given that i know nothing about religion) and blabbered for awhile about how we should be taught religion in schools so we have a firm foundation in understanding politics, history, literature, since most of what we learn is shaped by religion.
then he goes, “so, you don’t believe in the separation of church and state?” i was like, “uhh, uhhh… i do think that the government shouldn’t interfere with personal beliefs and blah blah…” and went on to contradict myself in circles. i forget what i even said after that.

we only covered two of my essays, and he asked how cummings’ theory of literary cubism can be used to explain my relationship with my parents. i was like “ummm, what.” [blabbers]

and then more awkward questions about my parents. i gulped down a mouthful of vanilla latte whenever i needed to stall for time.

all in all, i pretty much forgot everything i wanted to say, said a bunch of stuff i didn’t really mean to say, and i prepped for my personal conflict essay (like, i thought about everything i could for that essay) and they didn’t mention it at all. my nerves took over saturday night before the interview, but i was okay in the morning. incomprehensible, but not too nervous.

now, onto the waiting… gruagl;dskfjddfd

We covered all of my essays! Except booklist, thank goodness. Oh wait, and we never covered my future plans essay other than when she asked “Do you still want to major in English?” And I said yes. I was kind of sad, actually, that they didn’t ask why I wanted to be a teacher; I could have talked for another 10 minutes straight.

Hehe I could think of many many more Oh Crud! moments but I don’t want to, or else I’m going to freak out.

I was really glad who my interviewers were, though, because I asked them questions for like half an hour, ha ha. One was an English major (which I want to major in) and the other came from St. Louis, Missouri (WashU seminar was my first choice). I think I overwhelmed them with my questions at times, ha ha, because I got pretty specific in what I wanted to know.

Cubist what what!?! O.O

“so, you don’t believe in the separation of church and state?”

Well, being taught religion doesn’t mean that church and state are together. Making LAWS that are influenced directly by a certain religion would mean they’re not separate, not the OBJECTIVE teaching of religion in schools. Religions are cool; we should study them, but not necessarily have to FOLLOW them. Those two things are very different.

It’s funny how people get so worked up about studying things like Christianity in school, but then when they teach us about Greek mythology, nobody ever complains. When really, it’s the same thing, regardless of whether the fictional being of choice is Jesus or Athena.

This was actually in TIME Magazine recently, about how the Bible should be taught in school… alongside the other religions (Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Asian religions- Confucianism not being an official one) and their major works. Religion is definitely important in any education, and like Aida said, doesn’t contradict the separation of church and state.

Re: AIDS is a plague upon the homosexuals

Of course most new cases of AIDS are heterosexual females, they are more numerous than gay men and targeted more for unprotected sex (i.e. rape).

However, gay men do have the highest chance of getting AIDS because anal sex tends to cause tears in the intestinal wall, which AIDS can easily get into. Condoms have been known to rip during vigorous anal sex as well. This isn’t such a problem for women because anal sex is much rarer among heterosexual or lesbian couples.

Incidentally, the lowest rates of transmission occur in lesbian women.

I know, I’m so well versed in the ways of sex :P. You’ll have plenty of time for that at TASP ;).

The Bible SHOULD be taught in school, I agree, as well as the Qu’ran and other “holy” texts. It’s cool because that way, if we ALL know about it, we can all get the allusions in literature. Nowadays, we don’t have a “common literature”. We just have so much MATERIAL available now. Oof. Also, teaching religion would help kids learn about more than just one viewpoint and thus they would be better educated to make a choice related to what faith (if any) they want to follow.

Tru dat.

I hate how people say/said it is/was a “gay” disease, though. Bah.

SCORE! turns into lesbian XD

Oh yes. Very well versed. Bwahahaha.

P.S. - “Condoms have been known to rip during vigorous anal sex as well.” I’m not even going to COMMENT on this. XD

^ TASP - Total Anal Sex Party

edit: that arrow is pointing at butcherer…
