haha… I read it (probably only because I didn’t notice how long it was when I started). It makes sense.

Why are my apostrophes and quotation marks presented as question marks? AGH CC…

PS
Total Anal Sex Party… am I the only person turned off by TASP now? Nate, you made TASP sound like a summer (and then some) of awkward aching and limping… I don’t know what else to say. I’m going to go practice abstinence now!

PPS
OH! THIS TOTALLY reminds me of something this kid said in a debate competition. We were supposed to debate something about AIDS and how much jurisdiction the government has in preventing the spread of the disease, and the kid said everyone should be wearing condoms at ALL TIMES, and then he paused for a second and thought about his statement, and corrected himself by saying “and to ensure this is possible, the government believes it is necessary to design condoms specifically for flaccid *****es.” I guess that’s someone else’s Oh Crud moment, but my goodness that had me laughing for weeks on end.

PPPS
Thanks for reading Comi! And Karen, I can relate =)

the starred-out word by the way is part of the male anatomy (I’ll let you guess the rest). I meant it in terms of medical terminology, not vulgarity btw…

HAHAH uber that is hilarious.

:P

I read your argument too…makes sense, indeed. I do wish we learned about the Bible and Quran (sp?) and other religions in school; while we learn the basics of them, we never get into specific details. I guess discussion could never really take place because of the risk of offending people, but I would like to know more
Especially since we’re reading East of Eden in lit right now, and while I know the basics of the Fall of Man and Cain and Abel, I’m sure knowing the entire Bible would be more helpful in interpretating the book.

I guess I can just read the Bible on my own…but it’s not like I’d be able to discuss it in class, then, and that would seem almost pointless. I guess I could always talk to my teacher outside of class…I don’t know
I think I will read the Bible, actually, now that I think about it. Over summer. And other religious texts. Now I’m interested, ha ha. This is what this thread does to you.

Hmm. What a dilemna it is.

corey- i’m going to answer for nate since he’s probably baked right now. He was supposed to be in philly today but his plane got cancelled yesterday due to the storm.

Okay forget about my second complain on a previous post.

LMAO uber. He actually said that? In front of people? :D

I had that same feeling several years ago Tako, that my education was not helping me answer the questions I was asking, rather it was giving me questions to ask and then answering them.
I think religion and spirituality are special in that one can reach an internal solace, since the arguments and questions are basically universal and further resources abundant. I did a lot of reading to educate myself about ideas I was missing and I still (I say that because I don’t feel as restless about my beliefs and spirituality as I used to) try to get other’s opinions because it’s honestly impossible to know if you actually understand or not when it comes to spirituality, and every new vantage point matters in reaching that final focus.

EDIT: (to Comi) YEA! In front of the judges and the entire auditorium! I felt so embarrassed for him, and the poor guy was flushed (and quite flustered) for the entire debate! Good times though, public speaking brings out the funniest ideas in people.

“If two TASPers spawned a baby, it would take over the earth. So great would its TASPy power be. Having been spawned AT TASP of all things.”
-Iriseyes

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA i cackled uncontrollably at the computer screen

oh man hahaha i had to requote that, toooo funny.

so true.

speaking of which, i was looking at some pictures of previous TASP living quarters and i was wondering how the bedrooms are set up, such as two ppl share a room, or a boys side and girls side, etc… & do the factota randomly check up on you at night or something to enforce nighttime rules?

I think it varies from TASP to TASP, but there are probably 2 people to a room, boys room with boys, girls room with girls. At WashU, we were in a dorm, and there were 4 to a suite, 2 to a room, no co-ed suites.

Factota randomly check up on you all the time to enforce all the rules. Plus ‘nighttime’ rules vary…there’s usually not much more than an inside curfew in place (no ‘lights out’ rule or anything silly like that.) And you will be strongly discouraged not to engage in any unsuitable activities that you think you might be able to get away with, ie sex.

some of them never slept… others slept at like, 4am… and some of them slept during seminars… so no, i don’t think bedtime is something strictly enforced. they might “suggest” that you should probably go to bed, but from what i gleaned sleeping is a waste of time at TASP. check with aida, though.

Homework is about 75% done. =O And my roommate went to bed at 9:00. I hate her.

I don’t really sleep even now. 1 AM is early for me. I don’t even know why I stay up so late, it’s not like I’m doing anything worthwhile. >_>;;

But you know what they say…“you can sleep when you’re dead.”

" I don’t really sleep even now. 1 AM is early for me."

That is the freakin’ story of my life right now (well, up until spring break this week). I had no idea I was capable of getting so little sleep during the school week!

haha iris. good philosophy.

my homework is 0% done. whats great about that is we were supposed to have school today but it got cancelled. i still havent done it and i have soooo much. Sometimes I’m way too proud of myself.

okay i really really don’t feel like doing my chem homework so i’m procrastinating in various ways. the first relates to the previous topic of sex. It was just a random article i came about when reading the times a few minutes ago and a song it reminded me of.

Come out Virginia, don’t let me wait
You Catholic girls start much too late
aw But sooner or later it comes down to fate
I might as well be the one

well, They showed you a statue, told you to pray
They built you a temple and locked you away
Aw, but they never told you the price that you pay
For things that you might have done…
Only the good die young

Ohhhhh my god asdlkdslak;sdaf!!elktrsfdjk!!

Karen, mere seconds before opening up my CC window, I played a Billy Joel CD that has that exact song on it! What a coincidence. I love that song… and the rest of the album too :D

Interesting article. They should repeat the study under similar conditions, except instead of provoding abstinence education, provide students with information about and access to various forms of birth control, and then compare rates of STDs & unwanted pregnancy.

Yeah. They frown HIGHLY on sex. BIG NO-NO. Exclusive relationships are discouraged, but they won’t kill you, as long as you don’t turn antisocial and start PDAing like mad.

ROFLMAO.

"i would love to be ellen baer reading this board right nowand realizing that all the work i’ve done for this summer program has only led to a new moniker - total anal sex party.

lovely."

Worse would be to have L.L. Nunn reading that from beyond the grave.

Sleep = why?! when you could be talking? eating? playing? sleep when you’re dead. exactly.

It varies from TASP to TASP, yes. It depends on your factota. One of ours patrolled the house sometimes, but NEVER went into the rooms, just the common areas. LOL. No one actually SLEPT during seminar, but sometimes you could see the glazed eyes. XD We had a break between seminar and some people napped briefly, though.

Abstinence-only education is…bad. “Don’t touch the fire! DON’T!” - But…what if I do? - “Just don’t.” - The kid goes ahead and touches the fire, but doesn’t know what to do, how to put it out, so he just burns up and dies. Sounds funny, but that’s actually what happens. If you don’t have the tools to deal with something, you’ll be powerless. Giving the education is not encouraging it; it’s assuming some kids will do it regardless of education or whatever. It’s true. Most kids our age think they’re invincible and that STDs aren’t going to bite THEM in the butt, so they forget about it and have risky sex. Same thing with pregnancy. So, not having the knowledge to combat or prevent those things won’t act as a deterrant because kids don’t think they’re even at RISK, so they feel free to do whatever they want.

Oof, I read the whole thing, uber. I guess we were just talking about an idealized situation, though. To ENFORCE such an idea would be very troublesome and time-consuming, as well as controversial, like you stated.

Sex, that’s gross, okay?

I’m surprised it’s not a censored word on this board. Tsk tsk CC!

karen i resent those heinous accusations and general defamatory statements and insinuations, and regard them as personal attacks on my character. kthnxbai.
i was on my way to dc…
anyway now im here and i had a good burger at midnight, and now i am going to watch lost and go to bed

and total anal sex party is coined, copyrighted, and trademarked by nate industries llc inc, and if you quoted me you now owe me a cookie. that is all, goodnight

Thank god CC is back up! I was so sad last night when I tried to log on, and the site was down :(

The site dies so often at night. It’s very sad…
