Aw, don’t scare away the lurkers. Then they’ll never EVER post!

Also, I’ve been meaning to say, if any of y’all want to trade essays with me, go ahead and email them. Too lazy to check if I posted my email on here… but thecomisar@gmail.com

Ready, go!

I forgot your name when I sent you my essays, Lauren, but I wanted you to know I remember it now. Sorry about that.

Oh, and (after this), if anyone reads me using “oh, and…” to open a sentence, I want you to slap me. I use “oh, and” too much.

hahaha it’s ok.

Oh, and I will
:D

God I’m bored. But I leave for just a few hours to go to a dance and the thread jumps several pages! I should be used to this by now. =/

I can’t remember who has read my essays or not, but if you want to read them, drop me a line at awoodham [at] westoverschool.org. Send your along if you email me. =D

i would feel bad if i got in because all of you want it so much more than me…

Good Morning!

iris have I ever traded with you? Haha I don’t think so…

I don’t think so either, tako. I just got yours, I’ll send mine along (from a different addy, my school one always garbles the message.)

AGH! They come out at the end of April! Oh man oh man oh man oh man, that’s crazy soon!

And yet not soon enough…

Ah, the joys of being a human paradox.

Prom was fun. Some ppl have tagged me in pictures… I will put some up later but im to lazy too (I also need to put DC photos Up)

I also took this movie from an after party where these two girls got in this giant cat fight… Quite amusing.

Hehe.

Corey you look pretty hawt there in your tux :D

Awww and you and your date are pretty adorable :D

i dont understand why so many people are obsessed with TASP.

I mean, certainly there are other summer programs that provide a similar environment to that of TASP? and are just as good?

Is TASP ultra-prestigous or something

I suppose you could consider TASP to be prestigious. But we (at least I hope) don’t really care much about that aspect.

It’s also free, which is quite a little bonus :P

More than that, though, the application process tends to weed out some of the brightest kids in the nation. I mean, first you have to write five essays and a booklist. About 900 kids apply, and around 180 are chosen to move to the next round. TASP is very self-selective, because five essays is certainly no walk in the park. So the 180 people are a few of the most interesting kids in the nation. Then comes the interview process, where you weed out those writers who can’t talk, and confirm that whoever wrote the essay is actually a legit person.

So in the end you end up with 86 people who really really want to learn and can hold conversation and think up interesting ideals, and yet are social and fun as well.

I’m sure other summer programs provide a similar environment, but when you can pay your way into the program you don’t necessarily get the people who want to learn. I’m sure a few just want the line on their college application.

I’m sure there’s lots of people like that for TASP, but I think that TA does a pretty good job (I hope!) of weeding them out.

We are so obsessed with it because the experience of six weeks away from home, with some of the most amazing kids (in the humanities, at least) in the nation, exploring and learning about absolutely fascinating seminar topics with cool professors and factota just sounds like our dream summer.

^what you said basically encompasses all the reasons why I want to go to TASP sooooo bad… :D

Okay so here’s an interesting question I forgot to ask you guys… During my interview my interviewers asked me if I had any other summer plans. How do you respond to that? I have some back-up stuff if I don’t get into TASP, and I mentioned a little of that during the interview. Is that showing disinterest or commitment to stuff you’re passionate about? Thinking ahead or apathetic towards TASP acceptances? Reasonable questions or looking WAY too far into one simple question?
haha.

I didn’t know acceptance emails came out the end of this month! That’s way too much reality for me.

Oh, my people didn’t ask that at all!

I wouldn’t overanalyze or think about it, you’ll just freak yourself out :P

And yes, 8 days ><

My people briefly asked me that near the end of the interview too. In your case, I don’t think it was that big of a deal if you let them know that you had backup plans. My interviewers said that they just needed to make sure potential TASPers wouldn’t be gone every other day because of practice for an athletic team or something like that (ha, as if I were even physically coordinated enough to be on an athletic team).

Oh my. 8 days. I actually got a major surge of adrenaline just thinking about that… >_<

Wow, I didn’t get asked that at all!

But I do have a backup now, thank god. --;; For a while I was freaking out because TASP was my summer plan, knowing full well that there was an excellent chance I wouldn’t even get the interview. But I’ll probably go get my next level of certification in jewelry (maybe in diamond setting? =D I’m stuck between that one and pearl work.) and get a job or something, then finish the break with a hiking trip and a volleyball clinic. Next year, I swear to god my team will capture the New Englands. ==

But boy oh boy, TASP…everything drops for TASP.

I think during this coming week, I’m going to try to limit how much I come here (haha, we’ll see how long this lasts) because I might lose my mind otherwise with nervousness. -_-;
