Tasp 2007

I never thought about you not being an american citizen. YOu crazy canadian :stuck_out_tongue: SO does that mean you have a green card, or are you here with a parents work permit or W/e. Sorry I dont know much about that sort of stuff.

No green card, lmao. We’re practically illegal immigrants.

And yeah, UChicago’s a big meanie when it comes to financial aid to internationals, but I’m hoping anyhow  I guess applying RD is good that way, as I can compare all my schools/money side by side.

And Smith  I need to go check that college out!

TASP IS SO INSANELY COOL!

you guys are so lucky/smart for getting in.

what books should i be reading to make me as smart as you? :)

I would start with The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. lol I love that book no matter how long and detailed and gruesome it is.

I read all my little sister’s books, and somehow that got me in :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s actually kind of sad. Usually after I finish my homework (reading 2-3 chapters of APUSH 2-3 times, reading a chapter or two of lit 2 or 3 times, reading a math section, reading a chemistry chapter, reading french stuff) I am just tired of reading, so I read “light” reads (aka currently I am reading Ramona and her Mother by Beverly Cleary).

Occasionally I do read a “legit” book, I suppose, though. I loved Invisible Man and John Steinbeck is good (except The Pearl…grossness). And I love Ender’s game and Dune (my two favourite books in the world :))

I <3 Ramona. :-P

I said that. Her sisters a bia tho :-/

Thats pretty messed about the whole international thing. That being said maybe its a compliment. They are trying to make us stupid 'mericans smarter then you worldly internationals. (I think the term Intercontinentals when it comes to us 'mericans is much more PC)

ewww steinbeck.

Haha Karen ^^

And yes it is pretty messed up about the whole international thing. Oh well! That’s how life is meant to be, is all :)

And Ramona is pretty hilarious. Grown-up books just don’t have the same hilariousness! She squeezed all the toothpaste out of a tube  I HECKA wanna do that. Maybe I will go to Long’s tomorrow, and buy a tube just to do that :D

lol, I like “modern” books, mainly because I don’t like archaic language at all. I prefer “proper” English, which is probably why all my posts and e-mails and what not don’t contain sentences like “r u going to b back or wat?”, etc. lol.

I like sociology/psychology books like “The Tipping Point”, “The Pursuit of Happiness”, and (officially economics, but w/e) “Freakonomics”, etc. I also like books where the main character is moral and heroic! (I know, I’m such a romantist…) Not sure if this qualifies as inteligent reading though. lol

The thing about reading is so true though, tako! I find that I don’t have as much time to read books outside school because there’s just so much school stuff that I have to do. :P

Mintie I am such a sucker for moral/heroic characters.

Although I hate to admit it, I <333 chick flicks and underdog stories and happy moments. Such a sucker I am.

I think I have an empathizing problem. Like, I get so into movies/shows that I have to switch channels because I can’t stand confrontation or embarassment or awkwardness (like if a character lied to another character and the other character found out and is going to go say something about it).

Or whenever bad things happen to main characters I start hating on the movie director - like we’re watching the Manchurian Candidate - the old one - in APUSH right now, and Raymond’s mother is such a biotch and I’m just like EFFING A DIE RIGHT NOW RAWR and I try and tell other people but they just don’t care so I’m forced to deal with my anger at her all alone :frowning: Poor Raymond, omg, he’s such a cold character because his mother forced him and his sweetheart to break up and that’s why he’s cold! It’s all his mother’s fault! Why! If they had stayed together he’d be so much nicer…it makes me sad to think of the potential life he could have led.

And whenever good things happen I go on a temporary high. Like even though Iron Jawed Angels was like, the worst movie, ever, I still NEEDED to see the women win the Women’s Suffrage Amendment. I LIVE for endings. And I was happy the entire period afterwards because I was like, yay they won! I was so mad at The Breakup because they don’t get back together! That’s like, why I watched the friggin movie! Losers.

Even on this forum I go on lows and highs for other people…like when Corey didn’t win Pres (GRRR) I freaking think about it during the day and get angry at the world. And when Corey got his interview I was high for like the entire day. Haha and it’s not just Corey either! It’s like…everybody that posts on this forum. Aida, Roam, Dae, Karen…

Aren’t I weird?

ah such a long post! I just managed to write a 10 page paper. I’m so happy. Now i’m gonna go pass out. lol. I got 3 hours of sleep last night and prom is tomorrow. =)

Another reason you’re my long lost twin. hehe, remember that?

Lol. YOur prom is on a friday? strange… YOu have to write so many 10 page papers for your school, what has this world come to.

Tako, you kooky illegal immigrant! :P

I LOVED RAMONA!!! I remember one book where she stuck a Chiquita Banana sticker on her forehead because her aunt used to do it when she went to teach in class, 'cause sometimes she felt like she was teaching a bunch of bananas or something. XD I NEVER forget that bit. And the wedding one…where “here comes the bride, fair, fat, and wide.” lmao.

Tako, I totally know what you mean. It doesn’t happen to me ALWAYS, but when it does, oh man. I don’t have a thing about aggression, but sometimes when things get awkward it’s like OH NOES!! And stuff like that. I SAW THE BREAKUP!! It was a realistic ending. My girly side was like NOOOOOO!, but my other side was saying “Good, good, this is realistic. Kudos.” XD

LALALALALALA.

Update: I graduated the day before yesterday. Awards, hot mermaid dress, lollipops, etc = Yay! Prom = this Saturday!

Hahah! School’s over! Now I am free to bask in literary heaven, sleep, and…summer homework  Anyways, 30 days until you-know-what. !!! In the meantime, I’m going to -try- to catch up with my readings.

Oh! You know what’s a good book? Jane Eyre. Some other realllyy cool ones are, to name a few: the Sherlock Holmes adventures, Anna Karenina, Pale Fire, Slaughterhouse-five, The Bell Jar, and A Song of Ice and Fire series (yay sci-fi!)

Aida, Congratulations! I’m so excited for you!

Congrats Aida! XD That’s AWESOME!

I’m guessing everyone else did theirs like 2 weeks ago or something, but I did my health check today and the doctor I got (my family doctor was missing for some reason) was SO MEAN. He was just NASTY. He made me want to cry. He pretty much said he wouldn’t check this vaccine I had because he had OTHER patients to see and that I should just waste my $25 and schedule a visit a month later. ARGH! I mean, he did come around, thank goodness, but was making remarks like “You weigh _____? Wow, you don’t look so big.” WHAT ON EARTH!? Yeah… it was a HORRIBLE physical. If I ever become a doctor like him, I think I’ll shoot myself.

Eww that doesn’t sound very humane. Doctors can be quite an unscrupulous bunch…Well, at least it’s over!

lol, that’s so true!

What will you guys be doing before TASP? I’m not going to ask what you guys will be doing later though, because I’m guessing by then all our lives would be changed. ;)

Woww Mintie your doctor’s mean!

I didn’t have to go through the ordeal of a physical because I got one for cross country in August, and it lasts a year  But I did have to get two shots done.

Hmm, before TASP. Thinking about my pubspeak, perhaps. Actually I’m probably going to spend 24/7 redesigning our newspaper, writing solicitation letters, making our website, and learning how to use Dreamweaver, Joomla, Final Cut Pro, and whatever other software our school newspaper adviser feels inclined to use.

I’m so excited! LOL.

lol mintie! i like non-fic pop lit too. i had Freaknomics and Blink on my book list as well as Stumbling on Happiness (read that book, by the way. it’ll blow your mind a little).

HAHA i just switched from my pediatrician to my mom’s doctor, and she doesn’t have teenager-patients i presume, so when i asked her to sign the forms she was like, “huh? what is this? a summer program? why do they need to know whether you have oral herpes?” LOL.

agh i’m so jealous of all you school-out-early people. i still have a month to go, ish. i get out of school literally three days before TASP starts. so i’m going to be scrambling the day before packing everything. but after AP testing, four of my class sort of ended, so it has been pretty nice.
