I’m more science-inclined!

Still, it’s more biology/psychology, so I’m not sure if that’s the hardcore science you mean. XD

yeah it is…that was a rhetorical question. I never really ask questions i want the answers to. I have no clue why. Actually it might come from the fact that when i was growing up if I asked my dad a question i either got yelled at or got a lecture. =/ Neither of which i wanted.

Now this question i want to be answered. How do you get rid of a headache? I hate medicine and i’m on a diet so i can’t have my normal medicine which is ice cream.

LOL! Oh Karen, surely it would be worth it to relieve a headache? :D

You should go and sleep - that usually helps me. :/

daen: of course, i heart that school! it’s tied with brown and swarthmore. (oh, and i was totally gonna go to one of those UChicago information summer sessions on the 21rst or whatever with my dad; we were going to visit chicago and then drive over to ann arbor on the 24th, but my dad doesn’t get back from cambridge 'til the day before i leave, most likely. so that plan was shot. [is sad] )

omg, i go and take a two hour nap AND eat dinner and there have been no posts. GASP

Indeed! That’s heretic.

Is your headache gone, Karen?

no =( I hope it goes away by tomorrow because I have a final and swimming.

Okay off to write a critique of the broadway version of The Color Purple.

Hey nerds, long time no post. If anyone is going to Europe this summer (later in August) and is passing by France (I remember someone said they were going to Europe? or am I just hallucinating), message me. It would be totally awesome to meet you. (I’m traveling to a few nearby countries too if you’d rather meet outside the domain of Charlemagne)

This unprecedented advertisement for UChicago is baffling me. If someone cares to explain why it’s such a lit lamp to brilliant flies (excuse the analogy, I make a lot of comparisons to fruit flies, yeah I don’t know why either…), I would greatly appreciate it. Until then, McGill anyone? All the jazz of an urban university in the middle of one of the coolest cities in the world, architecture that inspires you when you get up in the morning and look out your dorm window, and the ability to remain in a country with a foreign policy that doesn’t involve diplomatic suicide… I say, SCORE!

Anyway, I’m so glad AP’s are over, I now have 5 periods of do-whatever-you-want and my other three classes are pretty much in study mode for finals=pick up the practice test and leave. It feels amaaaaaaazing. I wish this would last a little bit longer.

Good luck with that headache Karen, I’d just eat the ice cream =P.

whoa, uber, you’re back! join the UMich facebook group! and we’re scheduling the airport shuttles.

mcgill!
i’m gonna go check out campus and stuff in a couple weeks
i dont know much about uchicago but it probably sucks.

I wish i could apply to UCSB, but even i can’t bring myself to do that…

OH YEA that reminds me, I have to send in my travel plans. Thanks Roam!

Is anyone else flying in alone? This will be my first time, but I usually travel without my parents anyway so it should be fine… right? lol GAH TASP

Facebook… err… long story short, I’m abstaining… from the facebook orgy… I don’t want to ruin all of the mystery of my fellow TASPers’ identities yet. Anyway, you’ll see me in a few weeks no matter what (hopefully). =)

-Sorry about the cross-post Nate. Where are my CC manners?

My sister loved McGill (just to tell you all).

And oh no, the Uncommon App means one math/science teacher recommendation. My heart dies.

Ummm okay so one of you wants the Uncommon app, which will always be there. It has been there since the 80’s actually. And they are just being hypocrytical by using the common app as a means to streamline the proccess of all the extra info, but knowing UChicago. They will probably require 2 extra essays, the same as the essay portion of the Uncommon app.

Tako no need to worry about your rec letter. They value essays very strongly at UChicago, and it also isnt all that selective (compared to other schools, ivys and such) while it still offers arguably the toughest and most rewarding education (tied with swarthmore) I do believe that the reason for a higher acceptance rate is because of their lower yield rate (is that the right number to talk about?) but basically cross admits with UChicago and say an ivy, the vast majority will pick the Ivy. And UChicago has such a distinct atmosphere that those who apply because they truly fit in there, truly want to attend and value the same principles is the type of student they want there.

Back to the note of the switch to the Common app. UChicago is trying to reverse some of the negative aspects of its image and trying to make it more open to applicants who wouldnt necesarily apply there. A part of this too is that unlike the Ivys that actively seak out diversity so they can say they have every country in Sub-Saharan Africa represented, UChicago only has 30 foreign countries represented.
The truth is UChicago isnt the most diverse community and by using the Common app they will hopefuly attract a broader range of applicants especially those of under represented minorites. In the past UChicago hasnt had the best retension rate for African Americans and that is something they have been trying to change. They have revamped the office of minority student affairs and have started to do more recruiting, a big part of that being the introduction of the common app. (When my mom went there, there were maybe 30 black students in her class)

IDK what the whole point of that post was.
But yeah I miss you all and yay UChicago.

Uber, welcome back. UChicago sounds sort of like the McGill of the US. check it out.

Nate don’t waste your time UChicago is really not you, and most likely not me. But I will stay interested in the meantime.

Whaaa? Is it true that we get two chefs who provide us with lunch and dinner? That is one hefty bill! TASP–applied for the intellectual enlightenment, attended for the food. Thanks Nunn =)

lucky…thats good food right there

I second that.

are we back on the topic of tasp now because in that case im going to school. sigh

Haha, attended for the food–hear, hear!

Ugh. I can’t believe I just posted in the college admissions forum. Which I’ve been avoiding since forever. But I couldn’t help it, after I read this: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=350794

Haha, maybe it’s because he mentioned TASP, and I couldn’t bear it to be spoken of so flippantly (especially with an attitude like that)!

I dunno. I just really hope that, come next year, I won’t get sucked too deeply into this college application frenzy. Ahhh I feel like ranting :(

hahahaha daen you sound so wise and knowledgeable in that post. i was like, “aw :)” and then i posted too, hehe.

i know what you mean; i sincerely hope that with college applications next year, i won’t have to lose a piece of my soul in the process… eck, that was histrionic, sorry. i mean i just don’t want to have to deal with certain things, even though that’s kind of futile thinking.

oh, and uber, i ADORE montreal. one of my best friends live in montreal (brossard, actually) and i go there in the summer =) wait, where in canada are you from?

Thats why I stay on this thread :], yeah daen!!!

You have a way to voice my opinions in writing, something I am not very good at… Much better vocally.

XD

Funny thing is there is a girl who got 1980 on her SATs and got into Harvard (It was another thread on that board) and one of the things she did was go 30 minutes away just to take a class at another school. I wanted to do that but it is not a possibility at my school. (Wanted to take AP Euro) so instead senior year I think i am going to dual inrole with the local community college.
