Oh shoot I haven’t found the Single Choice stuff yet. Okay brb.

hey guyss…

congrats to all of you accepted for the programs. i really wanna apply next year, but im scared cus my gpa isnt extremely high… well compared to all of you others here on CC; my schools mad competitive and just down right hard.

i think i can write some compelling essays … but anyways, i think it may be pointless if my gpas low. its around a 94, w/ 5 aps.

anyways, i was wondering if you guys would mind posting your stats?
just ta be helpful for us hopefullss =)

thanks

Oh, er, I don’t know about TASP anymore, ambition.

Well everything’s a crapshoot these days, right? You never know…

Okay, stats.

GPA: 98ish unweighted, 107ish weighted (14 APs so far)
PSAT: 240
SAT: (TASP doesn’t require it, but you can put it down and I heard it HECKA helps) 2390 - might retake later on
ECs: Class president, editor-in-chief of yearbook and newspaper, President of FBLA, Amnesty International, and community service club. Loads of community service hours. Umm…other stuff, but I didn’t have it at the time of application.
Recs: Were amazing - teacher loves me
Essays: Were amazing - made teacher cry. Make sure your booklist has AT LEAST 45 books, because my interviewer told me that they look for really REALLY avid readers.

Do you have good ECs? They might be able to make up for that low GPA…

TASP doesn’t care about your grades or GPA. honestly, stats mean squat next to your essays. and i have a feeling you’ll get a deluge of similiar-minded comments in the … very soon future. lol.

edit:// oops, cross posting. heheheh tako.

As I’m sure others will reiterate, GPA matters very very little (and rightly so) when it comes to TASP decisions. Put your heart into the essays and everything will be fine.

Haha yeah, Ambition I was just kidding :P

I wish I had a GPA close to yours! I’m a failure when it comes to school. Somehow my essays and interviews managed to drag me in.

And remember, just be yourself. I was the dorky little kid that I am in my essays, and TASP liked me for it
so yay!

haha thanks alot guys.
hmmm i guess ill hafta do really well on my psats!

yeah my ec’s are decent. president of pre med society, founder / president of two other community service / humanitarian like clubs. double research at sophie davis and columbia in biomed science and astrophysics … really kills me lol. i go from queens to the bronx for school and then to harlem for research twice a week until 9 pm =P. co editor of my school’s chem magazine, and thats about it. oh and mad volunteer hours but thats pretty much expected i guess.

one of my better ec’s wil be traveling to costa rica this summer to work w/ kids with downssyndrome and in an orphanage for a month. cant wait!

in all honestly, do i have a shot? i guess thats kinda ignorant to ask, since you guys said essays are the biggest part. hmm…

Tako, I’m impressed! However, your 2390 simply pales in comparison to my 2400, achieved thrice in the course of my freshman year alone (I had to make sure it wasn’t a fluke, you see). And anything below a 99.9 GPA, in my humble opinion, is unacceptable. ;D

(On the other hand, if those stats are really true, then I probably just made a complete and utter fool of myself :P)

Oops…ignore my parenthesized comment…it seems I was a bit slow in my posting

P.S. Ambition, for what it’s worth, I don’t think my ECs were near as good as impressive as yours…my essays probably saved me :)

HAHAHAH Dae you’re cute.

And no, they’re not close to true. AT ALL. I’m a failure when it comes to school.

guys, don’t go around bragging about SAT scores now. ESPECIALLY since i, for one, got a 2430 (yes, i found three mistakes on the test, and they had to correct them and i was compensated with extra points. who knew?).

99.9? how atrocious.

Oh, and Ambition, you seem more of the RSI type - you seem to enjoy research. Why do you want to attend TASP?

lolllllllll dudeee. dont be so hard on yourself. people on CC are just ridiculously smart. if you got into tasp, you can’t be a failure at school

Haha, tako…Well I dunno, I saw EIC of newspaper and…

OH on a completely unrelated note, tako’s voice is not as high and bubbly as one might think, judging from her cute and animated posts! (or rather, not as i imagined.) her voice is actually very mellow.

okay, you can go back to talking about tako’s horrendous 99.9 now (wait, was it tako? or dae?).

EDIT: HOLY COW YOU GUYS POST FAST! This post was meant to have been submitted like 20 minutes ago!

Talk about ambition, indeed.

Dude, 94 with 5 ap’s is frankly just embarrassing. I hope that you’re joking about wanting to apply to TASP. As far as academic stats go, you are as good as rejected; your only chances now are your EC’s. The average TASPer has been published internationally (or at the very least nationally), and an exceptional few are celebrated under exotic monikers in foreign hubs of underground intellectualism (most prominently Luxembourg, Tajikistan, and Guinea-Bissau). The fact that you attend a competitive school really does not help you, neither does your unique method of defacing the English tongue (i.e. “guyss,” “cus,” “mad competitive,” etc.). Nevertheless I like to think of myself as an optimist and hope that your intelligence is able to overcome your OBVIOUS disabilities. If I were you, I wouldn’t worry about the essays; you could submit that post and get in.

Just remember, this isn’t anything like getting into HYPS (if ONLY!), this is your fast-track path to eternal happiness (yes, it does include assured happiness beyond the grave), not to mention high powered alumni connections (CC News Editor, HELLO!), so put your heart and soul into it (maybe sell the soul if you need the extra edge) and hope for the best! Good luck (but just know, if you think you need luck or have any doubts about your intelligence, you’re probably not ready for this program). YOU’RE WELCOME!

haha. you guys crack me up

(Make sure you use a lot of parentheses in your essays and you should be good ;))

Uber, I love you. I cannot wait to meet you.

And roam, it was Dae you had that unsatisfactory 99.9…tsk tsk.

Yes, Miss 2390 poses a very good question: why do you wish to attend TASP?
