TASP 2019

@bluediary On the acceptance letter, for me, at least, it said to have the transcript mailed physically:
“Request that a transcript from your school to be mailed to our Ithaca Office by April 1, 2019.”

@“Luxemb(o)urg” on the physical letter they sent, TA wrote that “alternately, if your school is able to provide your transcript electronically, it can be uploaded as a PDF”. also, excerpts are ok, just make sure to email TA that that’s what you’re doing

hi guys, has everyone been contacted for an interview…? I still haven’t and I’m not sure if that’s normal lol

@rjscholar I’m so super worried about the interview… in terms of non-related questions, were they mostly political/philosophical? or were they more about you and your thoughts?

@3p3p3p i still haven’t been contacted either!

@3p3p3p I also haven’t been contacted yet

Has anyone been allowed to exceed the word limit for the writing sample? Cuz I emailed to ask and they were like nope. Ooooof :frowning:

I forgot to say my writing sample was an excerpt…

The teacher I asked to do my recommendation isn’t receiving the form in her email… I’ve sent it like three times and she’s still not getting it. I emailed TASP about something else like a week ago and they still haven’t replied, and now that it’s the weekend, I don’t think they’re going to reply until Monday if they do at all. I’m kind of freaking out! Any advice? Does anyone have the phone number of the office?

@alrob29 There was a phone number in the acceptance letter, right?

@alrob29
here’s what i’d suggest:

  1. have her check her spam folder if she hasn’t already.
  2. if the above doesn’t work, ask your teacher to create a new email (or make a new email yourself for her). send the tasp form to this new email. then have your teacher access it. she won’t have any other emails cluttering their inbox so this will help guarantee she sees the form. if you make her a new email yourself and then give them access to the email you can pretty much guarantee she’ll get the form since you yourself can check if the form has arrived.
  3. if that STILL doesn’t work, it is probably not the fault of your teacher or yourself (or TA) but rather that surveymonkey is malfunctioning. consider contacting them and in addition contact TASP about the system malfunctioning.

@“Luxemb(o)urg” Yes, there is! Thanks, I forgot about that. @parousia thanks so much for this advice! I don’t want to annoy her with all this technical stuff about emails, but there’s no other teacher I want to do it, so I guess I’ll have to. Thanks again :slight_smile:

My teacher couldn’t find it either, but it ended up being in his spam folder ^^

are we supposed to mark the seminar preferences as “complete” even though we can’t fill it in yet?

Anyone know whether we should press “review and submit” or just leave it as is once we’ve gotten everything except the seminar selection done?

^ i’m wondering the same thing.

Finalist here. I would suggest pressing “Review and Submit” if only to ensure maximal ease with processing on their end, but I doubt you will be penalized for waiting until seminar preferences are available.

@3p3p3p the random, or as my interviewer called them “control”, questions were not about you as an individual. They were political and philosophical. However, to answer them properly, you definitely need to talk about them in terms of your own beliefs and thoughts.

@rjscholar thanks so much! i’ve heard rumors that the “control” last year was about partisanship…? i’m guessing it might be something similar this year?

@kanagawa Hi kanagawa. I’m really interested in the Reischauer Scholars Program and I’m planning to apply next year. Could u tell me how competitive is the admission? What material is needed (essay? standardized testing? rec letter? extracurricular?). There isn’t a lot of info out there on the internet, so I’m so glad to find a current student who is willing to answer questions! Thanks a lot!!!
