Well with two children in Phd programs I am hoping that this GOP tax plan fails.

There has been a lot of discussion of this in a thread in the parent forum. But YES. It is very problematic for PhD students. I sure hope it doesn’t pass. They are also taking away the Lifetime Learning credit, which will further inflate grad student federal taxes owed.

Thanks @intparent I woke up feeling helpless living in a red state in one of the reddest counties and really frustrated that my voice will probably not make a difference in how they vote for this. I will check out the parent forum!

But if anyone is just coming to the subject through this thread, now is the time to speak up on this to your reps & senators. Your voice matters more than many of ours (blue state reps are already voting against it).

I’m definitely writing a letter to my Senators and Reps. I live in a really blue state (Washington) but I do want to encourage them to fight and fight hard. I wouldn’t have been able to get my doctoral degree at all with the kind of tax they’re pushing - I wouldn’t have been able to afford it.
