Tax Questions: Forms 8917 & 8863

Would appreciate it if anybody has the answers to these questions:

The credit or deduction from these forms can be used for high schoolers taking college classes that do not count towards their high school graduation, right?

How about if they enroll in a college class and then drop it? Can we still deduct or get credit for the tuition and fees that were spent (and not refunded) on a dropped class?

Thanks.

Yes and yes.

Form 8863

A high school student taking college classes would likely not qualify for the American Opportunity Credit, but would qualify for the Lifetime Learning Credit. Read the instructions for the form carefully.
