Tax Refunds come out this week. . .how will you use it in regards to students’ expenses?

Show the check to the kids and tell them; “Get a job; pay too much in taxes; let the government redistribute your money to others; don’t hold the congress accountable for over spending; watch the economy go flat; and someday you too can get a check like this”.

Actually, I don’t have any “Student Expenses” for my kids so we’ll find something else for it.

Ours will go to bills - probably the dentist as I need some work done and this will cover a (probably small) part of it. My son will probably fritter his away - saving does not seem to be in his vocabulary. My daughter will probably get hers late as we were claiming her as a dependent then realized some income she had meant we should not have claimed her. Had already mailed hers so had to do a correction. She will probably save hers. Or pay for the gas for her drive to her summer job which is @ 2000 miles round trip.

We had to pay. We also paid son’s estimated taxes on investments and HE got the refund. I made sure he knew that when I deposited it for him.

I am very close to paying off my car and I think the stimulus check might almost cover it. My husband has been encouraging me to think about a new car, but I only have 65K+ miles on mine and I’ll love it even more once its paid off. I think I’ll drive it till it dies in the street … and I expect that to be quite a while!

Can I ask the IRS to make my check out directly to d’s college?

^^^if you you have FA (as we do), I think that the College will take it all back next year!

We also had to pay this year… a lot. We also won’t get that $300 or $600 check from Uncle Sam. I guess it is a nice problem to have, but we don’t qualify :(

^^^ same here!

Likewise, but my kids will…their checks will go into their accounts and they will use them toward their expenses as they do all their earnings.

Sadly, those of us who can be claimed as dependents don’t have a rebate to claim in our name… even if we paid taxes and filed a 1040.

^^^ Correct, tlaktan.

Younger s won’t be seeing any $$ b/c he is a dependent (he’s peeved) but older s filed his own taxes this year, got his refund, and is now awaiting his $300.

Splashmom-
Why would you get rid of a car with only 65K miles on it? How old is it and what is it?? We may be in the market for a car for older s, who is tired of driving mommy’s old minivan around! :o
