TCNJ-The College of New Jersey-RD-CLASS OF 2024

DS was already accepted but also got that email today. So I don’t think it means anything negative for you.

To PhillyBoysMom,
I would think Penn State is cheaper and a better name than TCNJ, but it is a much bigger campus vsTCNJ. If it wa say kid I would go to Penn State save some money for med school.

My son got in this week, ( he applied RD 11/15) instate sat1300 gpa 3.89 no merit. I know TCNJ does not give a lot of merit money, as they must feel instate tuition will win out at the end of the day. He also got into Rutgers NB so he will have to decide big school vs small school. He is a business major. Good luck to all.

Anyone got in recently, I am still waiting!! 1390 SAT 3.7 weighted GPA.

@TCNJApp - my son still has not heard. App was submitted in October and questions were completed in February. My daughter applied last year at the same time and was accepted February 4th-ish, as were here friends all from different majors & stats. I’m not sure what the difference is this year.

yeah, I know people who were excepted this year with about the same stats as me and they got merit, so I do not think it has anything to do with grades, maybe they are taking it one department at a time, I am applying for business, so idk.

We are still waitng as well, regular decision, but had application completed by the end of November . She was undecided, so we received an email asking if she wanted to remain undecided or choose an available major…

Just received my acceptance for TCNJ finance. do people know when honors invitations are sent out or merit aid?

My son was accepted tonight. His acceptance letter stated merit aid & the portal had a “Click here to accept Honors” link - no info!

Any tips on completing the out of state scholarship increase award questions for TCNJ? What is the expected length of responses for the questions. Does TCNJ typically increase the out of state award?

My daughter was accepted ED, so that was in November. Her offer to apply to Honors came mid-February. Merit was in her acceptance letter.

for those who got into honors would u mind sharing ur stats?

I got into honors with a 4.09 weighted GPA, 1410 SAT, and top 20% of my class (ranking)

In-state, 1430 SAT, 34 ACT, top 10%, 4.38 weighted

@NJdad07090 - My son was able to get switched to Biomedical Engineering from Biology at TCNJ and today he received invitation to join to Honors and they requested him to respond by 4/15. The email mentions that he can register for the Honors program even before accepting admission to TCNJ.

In Penn State, he has the summer start at main campus for Biomedical Engineering. We are instate to Penn State and TCNJ gave us the out of state award. So, money is similar and is not the criteria based on which we want to decide.

He has plans to do pre-med but feels Biomedical Engineering is good if his plans to do medical school changes.

What are the advantages/disadvantages between either school for our scenario? How is the Honors program at TCNJ?

@phillyboysmom , Congrats on your sons award, I was at TCNJ today if fact trying to see the school while there was still kids on campus, Admitted student day was pushed back to mid April but I am not expecting it to happen. As I said in my orginal post they are much different schools Penn State is huge while TCNJ is pretty small w 7,000 kids, they have invested in their stem buildings and dept and they are pretty impressive to be honest. The teachers seem to enjoy working with the students , no one is a number here. Have you been to the campus? Does your son want to be a big fish in a smaller pond compared to Penn State.

@NJdad07090 - We need to visit TCNJ and then he has to decide between the two. Did you like the school? Are Engineering degrees at TCNJ widely regarded?

My son liked it but I think he wants to be in more of a city, Hopefully they will have their accepted students day in mid April so you can see it, it is a pretty campus but on the smaller size, since they only have 7k kids, my son did not like Penn State campus because it wa sin the middle of nowhere. If you stay in the NY- Philly I 95 area TCNJ is pretty well know but Penn State reaches across the USA, I am guessing if you son loves Penn State he will not like TCNJ they are kinda of opposites. Good luck.

I got accepted for psychology with honors college. Does anyone know how good pre med is here and the benefits of the honors college?

From their tour this week the said they have a very very high acceptance rate out of their pre med program. I do not know two much about the honors college, TCNJ is on the small size (6500) so my guess would be you would get much smaller classes but just a guess.
