TCU [$50K] or UVA [$80K] for Business. Help with college selection!

Hello, anyone out there have advice between TCU and University of Virginia? Total cost for TCU with scholarships would be approximately $50k a year, and Virginia would be $80k a year.
Was on the verge of committing to TCU when I got accepted to UVA (it was a stretch school).
I plan to major in business.
Any advice is appreciated!

Is cost a factor? because 30k extra per year is a big difference

If cost doesn’t matter then it depends on which is a better fit for you. Do you plan to live on the east coast after graduating? UVA would be better for that. The vibes are quite different between TCU a private school in Texas and UVA a public school in Virginia. Which do you prefer? You’ll need to visit both.

You are not assured business at UVA. You have to attend the school and hope you then get selected for McIntire. So what would be your plan if you don’t get in ?

What is your major of interest ?

Did you include the tuition differential for TCU business in your cost #s? Using their estimate, that’s $17,500 additional.

All in all - two different schools. UVA the bigger name but that doesn’t necessarily mean much. Which can you afford and where do you feel most comfortable ? And what’s the plan of you don’t get into McIntire ?

From TCU

$250 per credit hour for Neeley School of Business undergraduate courses. It takes approximately 70 business credit hours to graduate with a degree from the Neeley School of Business.

Where do you want to live? Especially after graduating? What industry in business? Energy? Oil? Finance? Banking? What school fits your personality more? Like tsbna44 said McIntire is not direct admit. About 60% acceptance rate I believe I read?

Great find @tsbna44!

Also, no longer need to apply to Neeley after finishing pre-reqs. Now students are admitted automatically upon completion of Neeley pre-reqs.

Have you visited both schools ?

Did you account for the differential tuition at TCU when computing the COA ?

Do you have any other pending applications?

Still waiting on Vanderbilt, but it’s a big reach, so not counting on it!

unless your family is wealthy, the ROI on both is terrible.

Vandy doesn’t have business - just a business experience. So if I wanted to study business, it would be third of the three mentioned.

I agree. I wouldn’t pay that much for either school.

What is your in-state school?

TCU is not really known to specialize in business (within Texas itself, UT-Austin, Texas A&M and SMU are what people think of for B-school)

UVA is up there with UMich Ross and Berkeley Haas for the best undergraduate business school behind Wharton (all three place better into finance and consulting than Econ at Vandy). But it is extremely pricey OOS. Your in-state flagship could be a much better bargain (especially if it is a Big Ten school, or a Georgia or Florida etc.)
