TCU Neeley adding Differential Tuition increase

Son was accepted to TCU and Neeley School of Business. For an already expensive COA, I was disappointed to see Neeley is adding a Differential Tuition increase for Fall 2024 - amounts to ~$17,500 more over 4 years. We were already leaning towards SMU Cox Business, but this may have made the decision easier. Are these types of increases within a department normal?

Some schools have them.

For example, Purdue charges $2,050 for Engineering, CS, Data Science.

UMN - has fees at many schools, including engineering and business.

The TCU fee seems “high” but I don’t think it’s uncommon.

I know it happened when I was in grad school - with the thought that business students will make more than those with a Masters in Sociology.

You also see it as Honors Colleges - although they’ll tell you they’re for extra services/offerings.

It’s like paying a resort fee at a hotel - it just leaves a horrible taste in your mouth - especially one so aggressive.

Good luck.

Texas A&M charges about $2500 more a year for Mays making it about $14,500 a year for tuition versus about $12,000 a year for tuition

I’m okay with a premium charge for a public institution (and tuition), but at a private with premium pricing by default, the differential stings much more.

The math did not seem to make sense at TCU based on the average starting wages after graduation compared to other less expensive private schools and public schools…… and we just couldn’t figure out what TCU was based on disparate messaging…… The aspirational marketing from the admissions office seems so disconnected to the reality of the university
