TCU, USD or U Miami for business

What are your thoughts about TCU vs U Miami for business major and in regards to school community life, housing, safety ( a bit concerned about party scene at U M).
My SD got into Neleey @TCU ( loves school community feel, beautiful campus, social / sorority life, school size) and was all set on TCU ( received small merit) until she got off the waitlist from U Miami (no merit/aid). UM was her dream school mostly for its location, vibe and acceptance rate. Not sure how good business school is there and if professors are hit or miss.

She also just got off of waitlist for University of San Diego but even though it is a beautiful near beach location she’s not thrilled about business school rating and the small size of the school but we have not toured the school.

UM has a great b school and all colleges have hit or miss profs.

Can you afford Miami? If so, do you want to afford it?

Acceptance rate is not relevant when you step on campus. Two great choices so you won’t go wrong either way.

Best of luck.

I think @tsbna44 hit the nail on the head: can you afford UM out of pocket, without parental loans? And if so, keeping in mind you let your child apply there, is it within the budget you had assigned or was earning/winning a scholarship a condition to attend?

UM probably has a broader reach than TCU post graduation and slightly stronger peers but otherwise they’re comparable.

Since you’re concerned about parties, I tried to see if they had a substance-free floor or community but couldn’t find one. All 1st year dorms seem excellent/renovated and have special programming (stem support, residential faculty, leadership seminars, trips to Miami, etc.)

The location & vibe of U Miami are very different than that of TCU, therefore it should be an easy decision.

Yeah, We were hoping for merit scholarship. Cost of full ride plus even higher cost for off campus leaving once upperclassmen is definitely a factor.

If you have a budget - i.e. when Miami was the top choice, but was it only top choice with a discount?

If so, there’s your answer.
