TCU vs UT Austin

Hello all!
Well it’s almost the end of February which means that I am about to decide what school I go to. I am between UT Austin and TCU. Both are great schools I am just worried about a few things…

TCU Problems and Advantages- It’s a great school the only thing is that it is 30 minutes from where I live, would that be too close? Also it has a reputation of having a lot of rich people there who are snobs and I am worried that I will make no friends. Lastly, it is very expensive and I’m not sure if it is worth the cost. HOWEVER, it is a small school which means that I will have better relations with professors. PLUS, I am in pre-dental and their acceptance rate into dental school is above 80% which is really good.

UT Problems and Advantages- UT is really, really big. I don’t want to just be another number there I want to make relationships with professors and not feel so paranoid in a huge lecture hall. Another thing is that it is 3 hours away, that’s not too bad but it still worries me. Lastly, their acceptance into dental school isn’t too hot. In 2013 155 people applied to dental school and only 71 got in, that’s 45%. I don’t want to set myself up for failure if I’m going to a school. But besides that, UT has a great networking system and it looks really good to graduate from there. There is a lot of diversity and art in Austin and it’s just good city to be at. They also say that it’s a thriving city especially for graduates.

So what do you guys think? I’ve been really torn for the past few months it’s all so confusing… Thank you

Visit both schools and talk to everyone you can-students, professors. Where does it feel right? My daughter was just accepted to TCU and we are from CA. So, that’s really far away. She was originally thinking pre-dental but now is thinking nursing. She applied with a biology major. She was also accepted at SDSU-honors program and Baylor and a few others. We are waiting for the UC’s but she really thinks TCU is the best fit. I know UT Austin is a great school so I’m sure either way you will do great. TCU is pricey so hopefully you receive/received some scholarship $. Let them know you are torn and perhaps they will offer more $$$. My daughter also did not want to stay close to home but Texas is really far. Best of luck!!!

Definitely UT! It’s one of the best schools in the nation, not too expensive for instate students - cheaper than TCU, Austin is an amazing city and the UT system is great. I know a bunch of people who go to UT and love it there.
