I asked my D who lives in London - she recommended Fortnum & Mason, and The Ned for the traditional experience. For a slightly lower cost, she also recommends the Wallace Collection Restaurant and 11 Cadogan Gardens.
I’ve been to the Duke Hotel for martinis! We were visiting London with friends and a round of drinks for 4 was $80 pounds.
We went with the British Museum after a friend told us it had been his mom’s favorite place for tea. It’s been two years and I haven’t stopped thinking about those scones. ?
Fortnum & Mason had a lovely tea (and great teas for purchase).
If you are taking a young person then the Science Tea at The Ampersand is really fun.
Lots of great suggestions above for afternoon tea.
you are all wonderful thank you. I am checking these all out!
We just did Claridge’s and it was amazing!!!
Fortnum & Mason also has great lunch - chick pot pie and roast beef.
Last time I was in London I had high tea with D2 at the Intercontinental at Park Lane. The room was very airy and sandwiches were very good.
I also had tea at the Ritz and it was an experience.
If you do tea elsewhere, do the British Museum for lunch another day. Lovely setting.
High tea at the Palm Court at the Langham Hotel is very special.

I’m meeting up with a friend in London 2 weeks today. Her daughter lives in London and recommended Ham Yard hotel for high tea. She booked it today. Excited - cream tea and seeing a dear friend I haven’t seen in 4 years.
