We are going to London soon. Any suggestions on the best place for High Tea. The reviews on trip advisor are mixed
We went for High Tea at a tea room in Kensington Park. It was terrific!
We loved the British Museum on the balcony.
The Savoy
“The Savoy’s world-famous Afternoon Tea can be enjoyed in the Thames Foyer, the heart of The Savoy, where a stunning glass dome floods the room with natural light whilst the restaurant hums with gentle chatter, melodious piano and the delicate sound of silver on bone china throughout Afternoon Tea.”
The Ritz.
I will never forget it.
Thumper1 do you remember the name of it?
@downtoearth honestly I just did a google search…and I have NO idea! It was in 2005.
I’m liking some of the other suggestions here! I did this with my daughter…it might have been Hyde Park…
The Savoy sounds great!
Savoy is lovely for afternoon tea.
We had High Tea at the National Gallery, which was great.
Savoy is booked up , will look at the other suggestions thank you!
The Orangery Restaurant In Kensington Gardens…is where we went.
Just google Orangery Restaurant London…and you should get it.
This is the url i got…but the picture doesn’t match the orangery restaurant.
Brown’s Hotel. We loved it.
My sister had afternoon tea at the Mayfair Hotel in London and loved it.
Fortnum & Mason - beautiful setting and delicious food!
My daughters went to The Wallace Collection last summer for tea and loved it. I went to Brown’s Hotel about 25 years ago, was very nice then.
The crypt below St Martin in the Fields church In Trafalgar Square - historical location and St Martin’s Afternoon Tea in the apse was less than £20 for sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, cakes, desserts and a pot of tea. Not the glamorous afternoon tea you may be envisioning, but certainly different.

My daughter did a summer program in London a few years ago and she enjoyed high tea at Claridges Hotel. H and I went to Brown’s Hotel–but it was a long time ago (15 years).
The crypt at St. Paul’s cathedral is nice. My favorite outside of the really expensive ones is at the Duke Hotel. You sit on sofas instead of a restaurant setting. At least that is how it use to be. The hotel is very famous for their martinis. Rated one of the best in the world.
If you want the full Downton Abbey high tea experience, definitely do one of the hotels. They’re all generally excellent.
And then you can do the St Martins (definitely recommend and do a brass rubbing while you’re down there), Fortnum & Mason, National Gallery etc ones also. All in the name of research, of course…
We loved having tea at Fortnum & Mason. The setting is beautiful and food was delicious.
