So after lurking on these boards for over a week I finally made a username to post here. I applied for the fourth deadline an interviewed on February 15. Hopefully these boards will help slow the loss of my sanity over the next few days.

Anyway, I “highly preferred” teaching high school math or science on my preference form (I preferred this over my regional preferences). I got an email last night from admissions inviting me to a webinar about teaching math and science. Did anybody else get this? The email said that it is for all applicants who indicated these preferences and that signing up has no bearing on your admissions decision (as per usual), but if admissions decisions have already been made and they are just placing people now why would they waste your time if you were rejected right? I don’t want to freak anybody out (this is stressful enough) and I’m probably thinking way too hard about this, but does anybody know more about this?

oh yea, i got the email… "Special invitation to attend our “Spotlight on Math and Science Placements” are you going to ‘attend’ it? can you let me know what info they give you? I can’t because I have to work, but i really want to

i chose las vegas valley, and memphis in highly preferred, and oklahoma in preferred. I also chose san diego which was like a potential expansion region, did anyone pick any of the expansion regions?

I put Detroit, Las Vegas, and Oklahoma in highly preferred. I put Memphis and Delta in preferred. I put down San Diego in highly preferred as well! I chose Cincinatti and Columbus too under preferred and saw an article that TFA will be in Cinci in the Fall 2012.

Husker I am with you on history and ss. I also put down english. I said I would teach math and general science, not chem and physics though because I have no clue about those subjects! I have a feeling the english, history, and ss positions are VERY limited! Especially limited because we applied so late. This really sucks having to wait! I wish your regions did have an impact on being chosen! No one has said Detroit and I cannot imagine too many people are!

I put an expansion region. I picked Central Florida. I put Las Vegas Valley in preferred. I highly preffed the New England region. I’m originally from there and living in Louisiana right now. My boyfriend has a job offer up north, so I’m hoping I am placed in Rhode Island or Boston.

I did put a bunch of different regions though. While I want to go back there, and so does he, I’d be happy going anywhere that TFA has need! I put Seattle, Chicago, Florida, Delaware, Philly, Indianapolis, St. Louis… I put places all across the US! I had Hawaii, but then I took it out… I like to travel to different states too much to move to an island!

Excited to see TFA in Cinci! That’s where I’m originally from.
As far as grade level preferences I chose elementary and early childhood. That’s what I’m licensed to teach. High school scares me! But it seems like most people are preferring high school.

Cinemaniac, I did the same thing. I added more regions. I believe at the end I had like 29 regions? I am unsure. If no one is picking certain regions, I would think they would allow people who were super awesome to take the positions. Maybe that is who is waitlisted? I honestly do not know!

Oa0176 Hey Thank you for the information, I never seen any recruiter on my campus so I guess I don’t have any recruiters…

I am sook excited that we have so Many people joining us on this waiting stage!

Cinemaniac! I put central Florida as well because I live here right now! I hope that expand to Orlando! I pit the California expansion sites as well: San Diego and all the other regions in Calofornia!

Zettibetti- where did u find the article about the expansion to cicinnati? I was trying to find it but I can’t.

I just choose LA as highly preferred as well as elementary school. I never met a recruiter at school and I’ve been done with school for a year. When I started the application I got an email from a recruiter, which I found slightly weird since they obviously took my info before I submitted my application. I haven’t heard from my recruiter yet but he usually waits until closer to notification days to email. I’m convinced he wants those emails with the subject line TFA to give me a heart attack.

I highly preferred the following: Miami-dade, Memphis, south Louisiana, new York, Los Angeles, Oklahoma, eastern north Carolina, Baltimore, Phoenix, and Delta.

I put all remaining areas including expansion regions in my Preferred section and ranked them from #1-40 based on numerous factors

Oh, and I also got the invite to attend the math and science preferred seminar (even though I’m an English major) as well as an invitation to one about early childhood education

I did maybe 16!
I wouldnt worry about the number of regions. They say it has no bearing on admissions. Unless maybe a waitlist comes into play. Let’s just pray that doesn’t happen. I was nervous about putting too many expansion regions bc there was no info for them like salary or grad school options…

oh im not worried about the number i chose, i just didnt think people were picking so many, why not just choose the open option… I was a little hesitant about the expansion regions too, because when i asked my interviewer about it she said that we’d be like the guinea pigs if placed there.
