I found this blog post & thought it was VERY relevant
[What to do while waiting to see if you got into Teach for America - Wes’ TFA Adventure](<a href=“Wes' TFA Adventure”>What to do while waiting to see if you got into Teach for America - Wes' TFA Adventure)

Happy April everyone! 11 more days!

I received a webinar invitation for the High Priority webinar. Me thinks it is because I have several regions I would accept an offer for in high priority areas.

The sad thing is I will be at the dentist getting fillings just a few hours before the webinar. . .fat lip and less than stellar execution of questions is in my future :)

@KnickyG LOL, my hubster is so totally laid back about the deadline it’s amazing. He’s actually the one who clued me into Teach For America as he taught in the Oakland Public School system before TFA was there.

So I too am trying to be laid back, difficult but not impossible. ;[ So now we wait.

@KnickyG
I know how you feel. Surprisingly at my interview there were a few of us out of 9 (4 including myself) that were not college seniors.

And kudos on the poem…very creative!

I also put Greater Newark as my #1 Highest preferred region. If I somehow get in I hope that I get it. Because, honestly, I don’t want to go to Memphis.

Hey! I am slightly worried that I did not stress enough about closing the achievement gap in my interview. Did anyone feel the same way? I just felt that a lot of the questions asked were not specifically related to closing the teaching gap.

I definitely felt that way as well… I didn’t get to talk about why I wanted to do TFA at all, it was mostly about my resume etc.

I am guessing the earlier you apply, the greater your chances are at getting your location preference. On one of the TFA facebook pages, I saw that those who did one of the first deadlines had an option to choose. That might explain why I wasn’t given my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc choice. Ah well, I’m still excited nonetheless (that’s not to say I had a very different feeling in the beginning).

@balliztik
hopefully we both get in!
Also idk about you the rest of you, but is anyone else going to be viewing the webinars out of pure superstition? The irrational side of my mind is telling me the TFA admission counsel is monitoring which applicants go or not. WHY CANT APRIL 12 COME SOONER?! lol I am losing my mind.

Does anyone have any stats about how many people who make it to the final interview are eventually accepted? I have a rough rough estimate–I did some math and have a bit better of an idea–based on the following: this year, TFA conducted in-person interviews with 7137 candidates. Last year, 48,000 individuals initially applied and 5,200 were eventually invited to join the corps. Looking at the past six years’ worth of data, there’s a trend of a growth of 555 corps members per year, so we can expect there to be approximately 5,755 corps members this year, meaning that 80% of the candidates who made it to the final stage should be invited to TFA, given my math being correct.

The data on this year’s numbers are from the TFA admissions blog, the other years’ numbers are from Wikipedia, and then I did some math and found the average.

That seems REALLY high to me. Does that sound right to anyone else? Anyone have any informed ideas?

I’m waiting on tenterhooks!!

From what my recruiter as well as the interviewers said, TFA does not have a “quota” rather they are looking for candidates who match up with what TFA is looking for. The interviewers said to us during the orientation of the final interview that everyone in the room could get into TFA, it just depends on how well each individual matches up with the traits and background that TFA wants to hire.

@ssadiesades: are you referencing the numbers from the most recent post on the admissions blog? i think that data is only about 5DL interviews as opposed to the entire cycle :/

“Take a look at some of these facts from last week to get an idea of what a whirlwind six days it was!”

…Yeah, I think 80% sounds a little high. I had read somewhere that only 17% to 20% of the final interviews are chosen to join TFA. I personally know four people that signed up for 3DL and 4DL that were not invited to join…

Hey! I decided to join after looking at the posts for a few days. I am from the 5DL and had my final interview March 22nd. I am excited and nervous at this point- only 10 days until notification! I have been reading about the TF status changing prior to the notification as a hint that you have been accepted, has anyone’s status changed? Also, I noticed that you can change your region preferences until April 6th, do you think this affects when they will start placing people?

Hey Texas! My transitional funding changed to complete last week (before decisions were made)… however, I am taking it with a grain of salt because I sent an email about a flaw in my financial information in the transitional funding form. So quite possibly they just completed it to prevent forgetting to amend some of the data on the form.

And from what I hear, your regional preference has NO barring on your admission status. I will take them on their word on that.

@TFAAMAN That definitely seems like a good sign, but I understand your precautions. I had heard that too that your regional preference is looked at after you are admitted and has nothing to do with your actual admittance into the corps. I was just wondering how that might play a part into when they decide on your TF Status because that is based on where you are placed. Ah! I am probably looking way too much into it all! It’s been quite a long journey, I am ready to find out if this is or isn’t part of the plan!

Actually, I would be interested in hearing what all everyone’s individual plans are. Especially in the case of those of you who, like me, will be moving a family with them if they are selected to join!

Currently, I am getting my MA in Teaching ESL through online courses, I also work part time while my husband works full time but his job doesn’t pay very much and there isn’t much hope of him getting a raise anytime soon since its such a small company! He is also working on getting a second degree in Computer networking. So, he is willing to go wherever I go and focus full time on finishing up his second degree and then finding another job if I am selected. My daughter is excited about the idea of moving somewhere and meeting new people (she is 7). BUT, if I am not accepted we don’t really have much to worry about. He will continue to work his job while he does his schooling and I prepare to graduate. Once I have graduated I will start looking for jobs out of state (possibly overseas). So, our lives are not hanging on my acceptance, though, I truly hope I am chosen and have my entire families support since this is something I am very passionate about.

Hi all! As a much older 5DL a piece of advice. . .go jogging, watch a movie, study, study, study to get through finals and make the best grades you can. Alternatively if you are secure in your final grades, place in class, honors etc. . .Eat some great pizza, the best burger you can find, the most amazing sushi, the best Vegan meal you’ve ever eaten.

In other words live life, stop crunching numbers it does no good at all other than making all concerned about numbers.

We are all in the same boat, waiting, so do things you need to do to graduate with the best possible grades you can or if your grades are REALLY in the bag then do things you love Pizza at 3am with friends, midnight showings of a movie you want to see, a 24 hour session of Dr. Who.

For me, throwing myself into work and then reading books I want to read before I have no time for myself. I started reading “The Game of Thrones” a lot of fun.

In the back of my mind is the deadline but I can’t change a thing now so will enjoy the 10 days I have before the deadline no matter what the outcome is.

I wish you all the best in being accepted and I wish you a calming or diversionary plan to let the next 10 days pass in the least painful manner as possible.
