Teach For America 2013 Corps

@MinorityDreamer I didn’t think so either, but thus my complaining hasn’t seemed to change anything. I went ahead and accepted anyway. I decided that I can’t NOT accept. Hopefully once I begin interviewing I’ll be able to get a position doing something like 3rd grade instead of pre-k.

@ready2teach @Minoritydreamer I’ll be in Tulsa as well!

@philibree bummer, definitely seems like negotiation is a long-shot. who did you contact? I tried e-mailing admissions, but they’re closed right now due to Hurricane Sandy.

@Schopeful13, awesome :slight_smile: Do you FB?

@Philibree, I’m pretty sure they’ll be flexible with your grade levels :)

I feel lucky that both aspects of my assignment were highly preferred. I need to accept my offer still!

@ILoveLA24 I kind of think so, too. I spoke with the recruiter in my area (who wasn’t very nice, to be quite honest) as well as the person from the DC office who contacted me immediately after I received my email. She and I are speaking again on Monday and I have an in-person meeting with the recruiter on Tuesday.

@MinorityDreamer From what they have told me, they put people where they are needed. I don’t know how much flexibility there is to be honest. I’m hoping that I could get placed in a higher level of ECE. I would be more than willing to teach 3rd grade (not my first choice for certain, but better than nothing). I just don’t want to be stuck babysitting preschoolers or teaching kinder-gardeners how to sit Indian-style.

@crazygolfer68

I’m with you. I didn’t get my first choice location or subject, but both were within my highly preferred list. I also still need to accept haha.

@philibree I am a Kindergarten teacher, have been for 4 years. FYI - Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers do a lot more than teach children how to sit and listen. Besides reading, I also teach them how to spell…(like the word Kindergarteners).

FYI if you are placed in Pre-K or Kindergarten, I wouldn’t make comments like that to your colleagues because it is highly offensive to teachers of that grade level. But let’s hope, for your sake and the children’s, that you aren’t placed in ECE.
