Teach For America 2013 Corps

Pick a lesson that will stand out and make them say “wow.” I taught 11th Grade Physics because 1. I loved learning it but also 2. I doubt very many people teach that so it is memorable (not to mention Physics is a high need area). Make sure you have fun with it and know the material like the back of your hand!

I figured out my lesson! Doing a partner Math game as a review lesson. I will start practicing on Wednesday. I also think I have figured out my regions. Does anyone know if a high need region for them is in my top two if I will automatically be placed there? I have a feeling if I am accepted I will be going to Dallas since it is in my #2 spot.

I picked Dallas as one of my highly preferred as well.

I picked Mass, NYC, DC, Miami, RI, and Connecticut as highly preferred. I know they are selective places but I love the east coast. I’m also hoping to teach high needs subjects such as ECE and Special Ed so hopefully it is okay that I have picked low needs regions. Did anyone else put those places in their highly preferred?

I have Mass, DC and Miami on my highly preferred too, but they are down a little bit from my top 4.

I have changed my preferences once again lol. Anyone have Jacksonville, Atlanta, Dallas, Vegas or New Orleans in the top? How is everyone’s lessons coming along? I need to practice mine and shed it down to five minutes.

@lea415, I have Vegas in my top as well! I’ve already changed my lesson plan like five times, but I’ve finally got one that’s close to five minutes…

i change my preferences every other day it seems! right now i have MA, RI, NYC, Miami, DC, Philly, Baltimore, and Connecticut on my highly preferred. how has everyone been preparing for the final interview? i’m just trying to keep my cool but im just trying to remind myself that i can do it! deep breathing everyone

My highly preferred are DC, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville, Houston. I need to streamline my geography lesson plan so that it fits within the 5 minute timeframe. Blahhh.

How are all the lessons coming? Good luck this week everyone! =)

Working on my lesson right now. =] I just need to make the visuals/props tomorrow and practice while wearing my interview clothes, and I’m good to go.

Anyone interviewing in San Francisco on the 4th?

I have my lesson plan tomorrow in MA! Yikes! Feeling good.

Will post again after its all done. AHHH

dear everyone, BREATHE! the final interview went really well. just be yourself. its exactly what you think it will be, so just relax and enjoy yourself. I even made some new friends who I exchanged numbers with. Everyone is really friendly and just wants you to do well. Good luck!!! Now we begin the wait.

@Taffiedog10 How many people were in your interview? I am just wondering if it was the maximum of 12 or fewer.

there were 7 people interviewing, and then 2 interviewers. one person didnt show. it went by so quickly though!

I had my interview today too. There were 12 of us interviewing and 2 interviewers. It went well now waiting is going to be tough though.

Had my final interview yesterday. 10 interviewees and 2 interviewers. 7 were women, and 3 were African American. I was very stressed before hand but everything went smoothly and it passed by so quick. It is a very straight forward process and they are not trying to trick you or stump you. Everyone’s lesson plan was great!! I truly do not know how they are going to narrow it down any further!

Had my interview today. Everything went great! I had 10 interviewees and 2 interviewers. I had five men in mine. Now we just wait =(

I really don’t know how to gauge how well I did on the interview. A few people told me they liked my lesson, they said it was fun and very different. I think everyone had some really great lessons, we were all sitting there complimenting each other. I kind of ran off at the mouth during my personal interview I was really nervous but I made sure to express how passionate I was because I share the same background as many of the students (i.e a minority from a low-income community).

Had my interview today, too! I thought it went really well, but like you all have been saying, it’s so difficult to gauge how you did. I take comfort in knowing that I put my best foot forward and answered everything as honestly and enthusiastically as I possibly could, and if I don’t get it then it isn’t the right place for me to be!
