would it hurt to sumbit more letters of reference (from teachers, volunteer coordinators, etc) beyond the 2 required? I think these additional letters would provide a more complete overview of me, but I’m afraid that it’d excessive.

up! same question

One extra one doesn’t seem excessive at all. Two? It depends on why you’re doing it. If the main foci of your life are a Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and Spanish literature, then it makes all kinds of sense to submit recommendations from someone in the volunteer program and from a Spanish teacher, since none of your other recommendations is going to capture what’s really important about you. If you are submitting an extra recommendation just because you can, you shouldn’t bother. And make certain that the people you ask for the extra recommendations are good writers who will provide specific, vivid (and positive!) information about you.

More than four – you would have a high burden to justify that.

“You may also submit an additional recommendation from anyone who knows you well (e.g., coach, music or foreign language teacher, member of your community). Please use the Teacher Evaluation form in the Common Application for this purpose. You cannot submit this online; the person writing the recommendation must mail or fax us the forms.”

Above is from the school website. I would interpret “an additional” as 1 more, so three total.

“You cannot submit this online”

is that only for an additional rec or for all recs? Can the regular 2 teacher recs be submitted online?

thanks
