Teacher Recommendations

I am not sure what to do for teacher recommendations. My daugher’s school is very small and has split classes grade 5/6 and 7/8. So she has the same teacher 2 years in a row starting in grade 5. The teacher for Math and English is the same person. Some of these schools request different recommendations from these teachers, but if they are the same person how do we approach this?

You may just have to write a note to the school explaining your problem. I’m sure the schools will understand.

Call or email each school and see what they want you to do.

Ask the schools to apply and ask them about your situation. It will be likely that you can add one more teacher (or adviser if any) or head of the current school.

As a homeschooling parent, I filled out both the math and English recommendations for my child, but the schools asked for an additional recommendation from a content level teacher. Since he was taking science at the local public school, we asked that teacher for a rec. I suspect that that is what they’ll want, but the other posters are right–just email the school and ask, which is what we did for all schools but Exeter (because Exeter spells it out on their website).

Telephone the admissions officer you’ve been working with, or if you haven’t, go straight to the director/head recruiter/whatever. They are usually the preppiest, friendliest, great-to-hear-from-you people on Earth. They’ll be happy to work something out. This is partly why you’re going this route: to get away from petty-minded bureaucrats.
