How are the teachers at penn? And the food?

Teachers are a mixed bag. You’ll run into different qualitiy types of instructors as well as different styles of teaching (book vs. lecture, etc). For what I’ve seen, I’d say that 75% of the instructors I’ve had are pretty good in my book.

As for food, the campus dining halls are very weak, but there’s a ton of places to get food outside of dining halls. Food outside of dining halls is really good. Unfortunately, they force you to buy a meal plan, so you’ll be stuck with it during your first year.

Most of the teachers are very good, although it takes a little effort on the part of the students to develop a personal relationship with them. This can usually be done by talking with them after class, answering questions, and attending office hours. The food is half-decent, but definitely not home cooking. It’s not awful, and there are plenty of options, but a lot of people don’t like it.

I heard at the Preview Day that it’s very easy to ask a teacher out to lunch - an ideal way to get to know them.

Plus, I THINK that the school even pays for the lunch =)

Every prof I’ve had has been great…it’s the TAs that are hit or miss (it’s worth it to switch if you get a ‘miss’)
