Teacher's College - Candidacy Evaluation

I’m currently a Graduate student at Fairleigh Dickinson University I am in their Psychology program and I am scheduled to complete my Masters degree in Organizational Psychology, this upcoming May. I’m interested in perusing a Doctorate degree in Education at Columbia’s Teacher’s college specifically their AEGIS program - Doctorate of Education (Adult Learning and Leadership).

A little bit of information regarding my stats:

  • GPA of 3.96
  • GRE scores are a bit low at 301 (155 Qualitative, 146 Quantitative), 5 out 6 for Written
  • 1 year and 2 months research experience, within the areas of Self-presentation and Self-Determination Theory which included survey building, publication writing and guiding action of the lab for further research fields in Social Psychology.

I’m seriously considering taking the GRE again and paying a GRE prep course to increase my Quantitative score, according to Magoosh Columbia looks for an average Quantitative score of 156, which my score is just too low for. I think my Qualitative score is a bit lower but still competitive at 155 vs. the average of 159, is it wrong to think this way?

I have a little less than a year to apply to the AEGIS program (deadline is November 12th of 2017), my thoughts are mostly what is the possibility of getting into the program? What would increase my chances? and if Columbia’s Teacher’s College is too lofty what are some other programs that would offer a similar Ph.D program?

All thoughts are welcome.
