That’s fantastic! I suspect he will start out as the third string quarterback behind Brady and Mallett but maybe he will get a few snaps now and then. Maybe they will try him out a tight end to replace Gronk.

It will be interesting to see what happens and evolves.

I just refreshed my memory on the 3rd QB rule in the NFL and find that it was abolished two years ago, so that’s no longer a consideration.

Belichick wants to increase the self-esteem of his defensive backs by giving them plenty of picks while da Tim runs the scout team. But then he is a contrarian and he probably would love to show Ryan how to get a few TDs out of this clown of a player.

Boston just got another mad bomber.

Gillette Stadium is located in Foxboro not Boston and the Patriots are a New England team not merely a Boston team.

Belichick is just messing with the press.

Still too soon. :(

I like Tebow. Denver had a better record but did not progress any further without him than with him after their 100 million dollar buy of a new QB. I am sure Bill knows how to make good use of him.

curious move, the guy can’t play QB in the NFL. TE…maybe

"I am sure Bill knows how to make good use of him. "

Agree! Go Pats!

Oh please, keep the geography lesson to yourself. The Dallas Cowboys played in Irving most of their history and in Arlington for the past years. Where do the NY Jets and Giants play? Do the Redskins play in Washington, DC or in Maryland?

I am sure that Boston will refrain to consider the Patriots their own and fail to celebrate the next Super Bowl victory.

I hope you feel better now!

You are obviously still confused. The Dallas cowboys are named after a city. The Washington Redskins are named after a city. The New England Patriots are named after a region not a city. The logic is simple. You just have to be willing to apply simple logic.

Your definition of progress might need a bit of tweaking. Denver started its season with a horrendous record, and then Tebow “helped” grab a much better record before the wheels fell off when the divine intervention and sheer luck went away. Teams earn victories. The defense and a some incredible luck hid the truth in Denver. Tebow is a circus act and is not a QB, except for freak plays. Perhaps he can become the next Fridge!

Denver with Peyton is a much, much better team. Success in the playoffs is fickle.

I’m glad Tebow is getting a shot from a no-nonsense coach in Boston (Rex Ryan is a nonsense coach). He certainly won’t get a starting job, but we’ll see what he can do to make his mark in some circumstances or different positions. Then, maybe, hopefully, the proof will be in the pudding.

No one, repeat no one knows what the intent is in NE. The speculation is probably wrong, as in they won’t pull Brady to run plays near the goal line with Tebow; the entire offense is predicated around Brady and they have running backs so they’d be reducing their flexibility to bring in a guy to run what are essentially QB running plays.

I have trouble thinking of Tebow in the offense. The stories are he doesn’t read defenses - and this is a read-based offense, one that because it is over a decade old can give fits to receivers trying to learn it. The stories are also that he doesn’t remember plays all that well, but I can’t see that on the field while I can see the inability to read the defense. This mean I can’t see him at QB or receiver because in the NE offense the reads are the offense.

Maybe Bill wants to give him a shot. Josh drafted him. They try people who Josh worked with because Josh runs the offense. They have a plethora of tight ends, with 3 beyond Gronk and Hernandez fighting for the roster, including H-man and Ballard. They have more than enough running backs.

So beats me.

I don’t count on him being on the roster through camp. They sign people all the time and then cut them, including “prized” free agents. I don’t expect some weird sort of “must keep Tebow on the roster” thing happening with Bill.

Tim Tebow is a qb. The Patriots will keep him on their roster for at least a year. Tebow is a project the Patriots will work on to develop into a better qb who will to contribute to the team’s success long term.

[Tim Tebow signs with New England Patriots, wears No. 5 - ESPN Boston](Tim Tebow signs with New England Patriots, wears No. 5 - ESPN)

Assuming the Pats are interested in him as a quarterback, Tebow will be with them right up until Belichick can get a better backup for cheaper money, or until Tebow develops into something worthy of a 3rd round pick, in which case he will be traded.

“Denver with Peyton is a much, much better team. Success in the playoffs is fickle.”

If teams are not able to do better than last year in playoffs, then the guy they replaced is not the problem. I don’t really care they might be a better team.

It makes absolutely no difference how someone wins a superbowl. They are still the winners. I remember when Baltimore won the last superbowl, the quarterback, Trent Dilfer was not allowed to do anything and they still won.

It was Denver’s defense and special teams that won the majority of those games with Tebow. Not Tebow’s play.

In 6 of Tebow’s 11 games, the Denver defense gave up 15 or less points. One of those wins required Denver’s kicker to make 59 and 51 yard field goals.

The qb often gets way too much credit when a team wins.

I agree with the points made on the radio by former TE Jermaine Wiggins. Tebow isn’t an H-back or tight end: he’s big for a QB but too small for those positions. He would be a small fullback. He isn’t fast enough to be a regular running back. He isn’t fast enough to be a wide receiver. (I’d add we don’t know if he’s quick enough to play slot.) He’s never played special teams and isn’t large enough to be a blocker or really fast enough to be a gunner (like Matthew Slater is on punts and kickoffs for NE).

If he’s a backup QB, I question whether he’ll be on the roster. Why? Two reasons. First, roster spots in NE are valued. They don’t keep an extra QB. They were an early club to cut that salary by going with 2 QB’s. Second, if Brady goes down, they need someone who can execute the passing offense. That is the current backup Ryan Mallett. I doubt Tebow will do better running the NE offense given it’s a series of complicated pre and post snap reads which require quick decisions and accurate throws. Mallett is an accurate passer who can’t run while Tebow is a runner who can’t pass accurately.

So why do this? They take flyers on people. They get him in camp and see how it goes. If they cut him, they cut him. But I don’t see him sticking around for years as the future for Brady … unless he suddenly shows the things he’s lacked, meaning quick reads and accurate throws.

I think the idea that they keep him around because he’s a good guy is silly. There was no great love for him in the Denver locker room and I’ll bet the NE players aren’t interested in being asked question after question about a guy who doesn’t play. The first press conference was an example. Bill controls a media room. He gave people openings, notably “everyone was there but one player” and no one asked about which player that was because every question was Tebow, Tebow, Tebow. People here think Bill can control that by not answering questions but the rest of the team? Imagine Brady, who is a master with the press, being asked how Tim is doing at every Wednesday press conference and after every win or loss. I think they underestimate the persistence of the faithful.

No, not New Haven. Foxboro. About 125 miles northeast of New Haven.

Sorry, couldn’t resist. ;)
