My 13-year-old daughter has had a bad case of acne on her chest and now that it is starting to clear up, she has these small white scars (?) Is there any treatment for them, or is she resigned to wearing high cut bathing suits for the rest of her life?

I would suggest visiting a dermatologist.

Definitely visit a dermatologist … preferably, one who does a lot of cosmetic work. My D has some really bad problems with acne on her back all of a sudden & she is seeing a great young female doctor who understands the desire to get rid of all things acne. She wants to make sure D gets cleared up properly.

In the meantime, keep your daughter out of the sun, and use a very high SPF on any scarred areas. Sun exposure increases the likelihood of scars becoming permanent.

Also, if you have to wait a bit to see the doctor, check out Mederma and other scar reducing products. Mederma was recommended by the doctor to reduce a surgical scar.

I used a product called Bio-Oil on a scar. You can purchase it at Wal-Green’s and I am sure other drug stores carry it. It really helped fad/reduce the scar, but maybe scar would have cleared up if I had done nothing. I am also very careful to apply sunscreen to make sure it doesn’t darken.

See a dermatologist. There are lots of things that can help. My sister-in-law had very bad scarring from acne and had some sort of minor surgery on her scars and she’s so happy with the results.

Good luck!
