Teenagers and Migraines

For those of you with a teenage that suffers with migraines, what has helped them the most ? ( daily preventitive medicines )

I mentioned this in another thread - my daughter had debilitating migraines for the last 2 years and we worked with some of the “best” specialists in the country (Johns Hopkins, Mt. Sinai, etc.) but didn’t want to put her on any medication either daily or as needed because she was only 14 and there’s no way to know the long term effects of these drugs.

We tried accupuncture but it didn’t work and she thought it was too weird. A friend recommended a chiropractor who practices atlas orthogonal chiropractory. You should google it but basically they x-ray the patients head and neck area and discover where the misalignment is then use a sound-wave machine to move everything back into place. The concept is that if the base of the head and top of the spine are out of alignment then there is poor circulation in the head and the whole body is misaligned also which creates the migraines. I don’t explain it well but it is totally non-invasive with no side effects ever. We started with 2 visits a week and after about 6 months we go now about once a month. It worked immediately and basically changed her life.

The only problem is there are only about 500 of these specialists in the country. In the NY metro area there is one in Manhattan and one in Warwick, NY; none in Westchester, Long Island or Fairfield County which is surprising to me.

I highly recommend that you look into it for further info and, hopefully, there’s a practitioner close enough for your teenager to try it.

My D has had migraines for so long she knows what her main environmental/dietary/stress triggers are and avoids them. When she was getting them too frequently and she had tried most everything, a friend of my H’s that is an herbalist suggested ginger tea and rosemary oil, both are very comforting and helpful when she feels one coming on…
