“major reason why people drink is peer pressure”

that is so wrong. I find that I am most comfortable in cocktail party/mingling sessions with a drink in my left hand. It dosent depend on what the drink is, just that it be there. It provides lots of opportunites for avoiding awkward silences… ie, you need another drink, etc

But again, I live with an alcoholic who is at rock bottom and has been for over a year now, but it’s been repeated before. So, honestly, I can’t understand the ‘responsible’ side of it because I’ve never been exposed to that. For me, alcoholism = hitting, crying, taking care of an adult.

And, even though you guys are going for the pro-alcohol thing, there are plenty alcoholics that were successful. Really, there are probably a few on this board that are alcoholics. You might at one point be successful, but you don’t know the other side of their life - I promise, there is not one person that is an alcoholic that has not hurt their friends or family.

Drink for fun and be responsible. But you will always have people looking down at your FOR drinking. I will always have people looking down on me for NOT drinking. No matter what side you’re on, you’re going to feel like your in the minority and like you’re getting surrounded. It’s the whole grass is greener on the other side - until you come over and step in dog ****.

I feel kinda looked down on because I don’t drink… when people find out I don’t party, i don’t’ smoke, and i’m not promiscuous like all the other people at my school they get SOO SHOCKED. I’ve been asked if i’m devoutly religious before? gees…

People want to treat me differently because of that, and most find it difficult to understand why I don’t drink. They wonder, " how can u POSSIBLY have fun NOT drunk?" People like that make me so ticked off. I mean, c’mon guys. It IS possible to have A LOT of fun COMPLETELY sober. I don’t drink for several reasons, 1) it’s not healthy (bad for your liver. etc…) 2.) I’ve got an addictive personality, if i drink I’m too scared I’ll like the feeling way too much to want to drink in moderation 3) its ILLEGAL for those under the age of 21 to drink. So there.

I don’t’ care if people drink, so long as they do it responsibly and DON’T rub it in my face how “messed up” they got at some party Saturday night.

Ok… i just had to get stuff off my chest. This is an excellent thread guys! lol

haha, well i’m sorry, I don’t want to get arrested for possession of alcohol or get taken in when a party i’m at gets busted…

Plus, I’m a total goody-goody. I’ve like NEVER dont anything bad in my life. I even do youth advocacy and give presentations to middle school kids about dangers of drug use and alcohol abuse…If i did break the law or do something against what i was preachign to the kids i would feel sooo guilty. lol Anyone else with me on this one?

Just so you know, you won’t get arrested for underage possession or at a party. Ever. You might get a ticket for underage drinking if you’re pretty brazen about it, but probably won’t. And cops that break up parties aren’t going to waste their time doing anything beyond responding to the noise complaint.

Actually, that would be kind of awesome if you started drinking. I work on a similar campaign to get kids to stop drinking/smoking at my high school, and everyone just laughs when they find out. Me and the kid that’s running it both showed up high to our meeting with the administration about it. It wrocked. Wow. I can’t even remember what the beginning of this post was, so it’s probably a good time to end it. Yeah, I’ll do that now. Damn, I just missed a marathon of the Doors.

yeah it must really **** you off! I hate people that say that kinda ■■■ because it’s like, they’re implying that, that are the shiznik.

Everyone is different and it’s weird because people (not you guys) think when you drink, you’re automatically going to turn into an alcoholic.

and to the person who said something about the lack of brain cells - shut up. you are that type of person that feel that they are more superior than drinkers. and those people really fuc me off.

hey masha, i’m the president of SADD (students against drink driving) and although I don’t drink drive, I have gotten into a car in which the driver was drunk. BIG oops. Never making that mistake again…

I also choose not to drink. I think it is pathetic that many teenagers do not know how to have fun without being intoxicated. It’s great to know that there are others out there like me.

It is hard to find things to do that don’t involve being intoxicated, especially when parties are pretty much the only thing to do and at those partys there is such a surplus of alcohol

That’s ridiculous, I don’t drink and I don’t have enough hours in the day for everything I do. For example, I am a competitive swimmer, and sometimes we train around 20 hours a week. You just have to find things you enjoy.
