Telemarketing Text Messages

I have both my home and cell registered on the Do-Not-Call-List, but the past few weeks I have received at least one (sometimes two) telemarketing texts a day. They say, “Text STOP to end,” which I do, but it’s still annoying. Anyone else experience this recently? FWIW, I’m with AT&T. Can you file a complaint with the DO-Not-Call-Registry if it’s a text? I’m uncertain why this only recently started happening.

Yup, you can report it at www.donotcall.gov.

I was wondering the same thing! Does the Do Not Call Registry run out? Do we need to update it? I have been inundated with calls both on my cell and on home phone in 2012.

The Do Not Call Registry is now permanent. So whatever numbers you have registered will stay registered. However, there always are organizations and individuals who don’t care, and will call or text. What I hate are the robo-calls that don’t clearly state the name of the business, and that don’t give a clear call-back number. Those are hard to report because the DNCR asks for the name of the offender and/or a phone number as well as the date and time of the call.

Likely illegal based on the Telephone Consumer Protection Act:

There is a private right of action against illegal telemarketing. Example of use here:

I was approached by my former Yellow Book sales person as she’s left directory advertising sales and is now hawking advertising texting services.

I told her that there was no way my business was going to advertise using methods that I found personally offensive, sorry. I wouldn’t shop with a business that texted me – and I don’t think my customers will either.
