<p>My kids want to replace the old telescope H has been using for 25 years. It was given to him by his old secretary so I doubt it was expensive to begin with. It is a Meade.The telescope is not used to view the stars but to check out the surf waves at a distant point.
He would not want them to spend a lot of their money on him. Suggestions of brands? I figure they would buy from Amazon or Costco. For the use he wants I think simple would be best. </p>
<p>You’re better off buying good binoculars or a spotting scope. Amazon is okay. Decent brands like Meade, Celestron, Nikon.</p>
<p>Thanks. I will have them look at scopes. He has good binoculars. The present telescope sits on a tripod in front of the sliding glass door and is fixed on the point. </p>
<p>Are you looking for a terrestrial scope? that is what we use to look at the mountains for animals.</p>
