Tell me about Nashville

So, oldest, who is currently working in Toronto, has been offered a great job in Nashville. Without revealing too much, lets just say she works in the design end of the entertainment industry and has caught the attention of some music people.

If you are used to a large city, will Nashville feel too small? Or is there enough in terms of clothes, restaurants, whatnot, to feel like you have places to go and choices?

Thanks

Both kids went to school there, D lives there now, and I visit often. It sounds like your oldest would fit right in to the entertainment vibe. I live 2 hours away and many of my town’s young adults end up there as there are good job opportunities and the lifestyle is great - concerts, restaurants, etc. Here are some older threads that have Nashville opinions that might be helpful to you.

Thank you for those links!

I love CC

Nashville is the current “It” city. This isn’t just my opinion- it has been featured in many publications. I have been here 7 years (grew up in Phila area, college/law school in Midwest and 28 years in Dallas) and it is just the greatest place to live that I can imagine. We love everything about it, except that we haven’t found good Chinese food. It is a perfect sized city- so much to do, excellent restaurant options- but easy to go and do things! Things that even in Dallas were a huge hassle are much easier here- concerts, sporting events, etc. Vanderbilt adds a lot- great medical care, SEC sports, top academics. The surrounding areas are beautiful- lots of green space, great city parks, lots of outdoor activities.

Shopping isn’t Dallas, but we now have Nordstrom, Container Store, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and most of the luxury stores (not that your daughter cares about Cartier…).

I love the airport. It is easy to navigate and very pleasant. There are good Southwest flights to most destinations. My boss thinks it isn’t as good as Atlanta and minds having to connect sometimes, but I think it works well for me.

Driving distance to the Florida beaches (Destin etc) the Smokies, Ashville, Louisville and even Chicago.

My daughter is somewhat of a foodie and she and her H are really happy with the restaurants.

I really can’t say enough about Nashville. I thought we dropped right into heaven when we moved here in 2006 for my job. I still look around on my drive to work at the beautiful scenery (I pass cows, horse farms etc CLOSE TO TOWN) and am grateful to be here.

Oh- and the music and entertainment industry! We see the stars all around town and they are so nice and no one bothers them.

Thanks. I think she is very interested, both in the job, and the city.

Personally, having just moved down to NC, I’d love to have her there! I’m finding the Raliegh area to be much as you have just described Nashville, and wish I had moved here much sooner!

When I told her you said it was the current “it” city, she acted like I was an idiot to not know this. Of course, I call it “the facebook” and “the google” just to bug her anyway.

It sounds like an exciting place to be.

(now I want to move to Nashville!)

I’ve only visited (and really enjoy doing so) - but Nashville has an incredible number of really really good restaurants for a city its size.
