Indeed, I am poor. However, I am worried that those scholarships, or one of them, is not renewable. It just says 2010-2011 school year. If renewable, I think I will choose NYU. In California, I am eligible for the Blue and Gold Plan. NYU, according to this award statement, will only be about 4000 more than a UC… I feel like I can definitely handle that. My other options are UCD, UCSB, UCSD. I am a humanities guy and NYU seems like the right choice (despite having to spend 2 years doing the LS program most likely because I messed up my junior year).

Any information or advice is accepted. It seems a little too good to be true at the moment.

Call FA office and confirm?

Call NYU or look it up online. I would want to be sure that all of the scholarships are renewable because at least one of them likely isn’t. Congrats on those awesome scholarships though! At least you aren’t being asked to have a $16,000 loan!

That is a freakin awesome FA package!!! NYU scholarships are renewable each year, unless your fiancial picture at home changes but you can expect to receive the same each year. Good luck to you. You must be one hell of a candidate.

he’s lsp… =P

@Joe Just because you’re LSP doesnt mean you’re a bad candidate.

its a joke kid. but… if u are lsp’d, it doesnt make you one hell of a candidate…

I called the FA office and these scholarships are indeed renewable.
I have a pretty unique financial and family situation, so I am assuming that the aid is based on that. I failed classes in my junior year because of some serious issues that kept me away from school. Other than that bad year (which was certainly noted in my essay), I’m a 4.4 student, 2300 SAT’s, 5s on my AP tests. I’m happy that NYU accepted me into LSP and did not outright reject me.

NYU is going to cost me approx. 3k more than a UC. This is certainly manageable. I am just wondering if it is worth it. NYC is a city with a lot of connections and a lot of opportunities; UCD and UCSB, while academically not far behind, do not seem as prestigious or as promising.

I would love to go to NYU. This package is more than expected. However, I’m concerned about the rigidness of the LSP program and the stigma it seems to carry. I realize NYU is probably a place of flaring egos and this sort of thing is to be expected (not in reference to the previous lsp comment but rather to the general heckling of the program on boards). But it won’t really bother me if I receive quality education. From what it seems, LSP is basically getting your GE requirements out of the way in the first two years. That’s appealing in a way. So are small classrooms.

I’m quite torn and perhaps misinformed.

My 2 cents. As I stated earlier, this is an exceptional package. NYU does not give money out like this. I would go to NYU based on that alone. LSP does not have a stigma. You go to classes like everyone else. Room with everyone else and nobody cares what school you are in. You graduate with you NYU degree and its all good. Obviously NYU wants you, because they get 26,000 applicants and they give more money to those they want. Take it and run, you won’t be dissapointed. Sometimes it’s just good to get out of town. If you don’t like it after a year, transfer, but you probably wont see money like this again.

I’ve decided to take it. Thank you for your input.

NYU 2014!

I’m jealous… My FA package isn’t as good as yours…:(

Wow, congrats. They only gave me $13,000 in scholarships/work-study/grants/etc. $40,000 in loans per year? Noooo thankyou.

"NYU is probably a place of flaring egos "

Really? No more than any other place. Don’t go with any preconceived notions. Just go and enjoy your time there.

Haha I totally agree. Anywhere is a place of flaring egos. There is always “that guy”. That’s the point really— it doesn’t matter to me in the end what some guy thinks about the program I’m in. As long as it gets me where I want to go…
