Tell me about University of San Francisco

Guys, I got into USFCA with a scholarship of 29,000$ per year. I’m curious about the university tho. Is it good ?Worth the money? Also, I already have some other fantastic options like Purdue Engineering, UFL, UC Davis…waiting on more nice admits to come.

So…what is ur opinion about USFCA.

Thank you!!

My daughter was accepted to USF last year and, while she ended up somewhere else, she absolutely loved USF. It is an excellent school and every interaction we had with people there was very positive. I have nothing but good things to say.

If there is a downside, USF and San Francisco itself are very expensive and I think USF has a shortage of on campus housing for undergrads so at some point you may find yourself in the SF housing market which can be stressful and expensive. It is also in a very urban area - with all the good and bad that comes with that. (It is right across the street from Golden Gate Park, though, which is a wonderful green area perfect for walking and studying, etc).

Would you like to live in San Francisco? Some people love it, some don’t. And I think that’s a big consideration for USF. Along with the price tag, of course.

USF is definitely a unique school. The campus is small compared to Purdue, Davis etc. those schools are the city they are in. My kids went to Wisco and UW Seattle. USF not that kind of footprint. There is no football team or stadium associated with USF. WCC sports so the Dons play Gonzaga and St. Mary’s. USF is heavy international and commuter student based. Solid Rec Center with Olympic size pool. Academics are good. Check out SI Institute…philosophy / great books program to couple with your major. Not sure about engineering. Business, nursing were big.

I grew up in SF…went to USF…and work near Golden Gate Park. SF is an amazing place but is a bit gritty. Always has been and always will be. The park is amazing as is the Presidio. Huge concert…Outside Lands in Fall. Marin county just over the GGB is heaven on earth for running trails biking etc. If you surf, Santa Cruz …90 min south…Pacifica…20 min south…OB…5 min down Fulton…Stinson/Bolinas in Marin.

Good luck with your choice. Enjoy.

My daughter has several friends who attended USF, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about it from them. It is pretty common for the school to give enough merit to match the cost of UC’s, for in-state students - for one of my d’s friends, it was a choice between USF and UCSC, and she happily went with USF.

That said, you mention being accepted to Purdue Engineering. I wouldn’t choose USF over Purdue for an engineering major. The engineering major is “is designed to meet the requirements for professional accreditation by ABET, the agency which oversees accreditation of engineering programs.” But not ABET accredited currently. And definitely not competitive with Purdue, UF, UCD, for engineering specifically. There are other majors for which I’d definitely consider USF over those schools, but not (IMHO) engineering.
