Tell me about your Avatar!

Ok, the ONE thing I like about the upgrade is the pictures (I’m partial to the dog pics…but…that’s just me)

I’d love to hear the stories behind the Avatars, if you’d like to share.

I’ll start. This is our yellow lab, Ellie. She is 5 1/2 years old; our 3rd yellow lab. We call her “Ellie the Wonder Dog” since she has rebounded after a horrible diagnosis of Lyme nephritis last spring (there’s a thread about it, if you search) We think she’s the most perfect dog ever, except for that thing about pulling on the leash. And the other thing about eating napkins and kleenex. ETA: At Christmas, her affinity for paper products comes in handy since she takes all the wrapping paper and shreds it. This pic was taken as she sat in her wrapping paper lair.

What about YOUR avatar? Why’d you pick it? Want to share?

This is my 6-ish year old Pittie, Moo Moo (well, her real name is Cleopatra but we call her Moo Moo because she looks like a cow). She is a rescue. We got her when she was approximately 6 months old and she had almost 1,000 stitches in her tiny body from being a bait dog. My dad slept with her on his chest for almost a month because she would just sit and shake if she was left alone at all.
This particular picture was taken while we were cooking Chistmas dinner and she was displeased by the fact that we were not feeding her.

< yep, it’s a hand. My son drew it.

I picked mine off the internet, but am very partial to guinea pigs. I am allergic, so don’t own one at the moment. :frowning: Next best thing is to have them as avatars. I did like the tug of war part, too.

Mine is the Canadian view of Lake Huron from the front yard of our cottage - it’s my happy place!!!

Mine is my first dog, Pippin, who died last September. He was very curious and would always come around if you were putting together a piece of Ikea furniture or something. He would have helped if he could have! He also liked to “seek the highest ground”, so if you were sleeping on your side he would jump up and perch himself on your hip and go to sleep himself. It made rolling over a bit of a challenge but I miss it!

So… I wouldn’t post a picture of my actual pet… if I wanted to preserve my anonymity. I guess I think quite a few people would recognize my dog (or my past dogs). But everyone seems to be doing that.

College Dropout Bear seemed appropriate :)

mine is a silhouette shadow of my now 20 yo d when she was 12 or so. We were at a beach on Lake Michigan in Chicago and she was trying to take a picture of the lake, I don’t think she realized she was getting herself, too.

bajamm, pretty photo. I have one of my cakes as my avatar. It’s the most recent one I made, for an 89 year old lady who’s moving out of town. This was her personal cake-the rest of the party had sheet cakes that I made. It was inspired by her many fantastic church hats.

I find it amusing that many of the avatars are dogs, but one of the posters who didn’t choose a dog chose a screen name of “barrk”.

Mine is what I see in my backyard. This is an old picture because now I have a foot and a half of snow on the porch railings and you can’t see the bird feeder. Maybe I will update it, it’s a pretty impressive wall of snow.

Mine is from a race I ran. I don’t feel I’m very identifiable from the pic, but privacy is pretty non-existent anyway.

This is my Daisy. We got her because I flunked transporting after she was rescued from a puppy mill where she was a breeder. We think she is about 3 years old. She is the sweetest thing.

Mine is of the skyline of my beautiful city, Toronto.

abasket, I don’t think I knew that you had a cottage here in the great north. Yay for you!

sseamom, that cake looks yummy!

I didn’t post one of my dogs because I would be clearly identifiable with my four.

To me nothing is cheerier than a big yellow sunflower!

It is really sweetening to see everyone’s avatar and the meaning behind it. ;))

My avatar is the great old beach across the street in my hometown.

This picture is pretty special. I spent the day at the beach with my best friend of many years who is in the military on the day after Christmas. This was right before he left to be stationed in Korea. It was great. I am deathly afraid of “seagull swarms” and he really did make everything better than day. Good times…good times…

My snorkeling buddy last summer in Hawaii.

No need to squint to read my name now

My sweet dog Henry. He is 3 and our 4th lab. He has a million toys at home, but always wants to steal the other dog’s ball when we go out to the park or beach.
