Tell Me About Your (Women's) Hairstyle

Ok…here are my pics from todays cut:

Your gray is really pretty! Is that natural gray??

That’s my natural color! When I stopped coloring, I had a transition period. My stylist asked me what I wanted for a color and I pointed to her variegated grey luxury vinyl tile floor and said “like that”.

Luckily, that’s what I got!

Nice cut and color.

Looks great!

My hair is way thinner than yours, and I usually have it cut to a similar length -
with bangs. I still have less than 5% gray in my late 50s but I so I expect that I will suddenly go gray when I turn 60!

Don’t count on that gray coming in! By 65 I assumed that as well but I was still mostly mousy brown with lots of thin graying streaks (salt & pepper but not pretty like Thumper). Ended up getting whitish blond highlights all over that brought the gray.

I have a choppy bob and really love it. Little less than shoulder length although occasionally I go longer. I stopped coloring my hair and it was the best thing for me. My hair are so much healthy looking and I gained a lot in volume. Apparently coloring was not good for my type of hair but I had no idea. I thought I would be upset with all the gray but whatever I lost from color I gained in volume and health of hair. My friends initially skeptical for me are now big fans. I find my style easy to take care and versatile. If I want I can style it more wavy and fluffy or more sleek and straight (or do nothing at all). I can take 3-4 months between haircuts.

Timely questions for me. I’ve never colored my hair, but til last summer I’ve had permed it 2 or 3 times per year for 40+ years (less curly in recent decades). Always bangs, short to medium length permed hair. Towel-dry and go, sometimes curling iron as perm grows out.

But it’s hard to find stylists who do perms. So I’m currently experimenting with no re-perm (just remnants now below the ears), growing out the bangs. My thought was it would be nice to be able to do a pony tail for pickleball. Results are not great, so I will probably revert to perm and bangs again.

I wonder if you could just use some product to activists some curl/wave in lieu of a perm? Do you use any product??

My hair looks almost exactly like @thumper1’s! Same coloring (natural) and cut. I would say mine has a little more blond in the back (like the first photo) but that’s probably wishful thinking on my part! I do have cowlicks and have to blow it so it flips under nicely like this. No bangs - grew them out because they were hard to keep styled and they grew too quickly. I have a high forehead so that added a bang challenge as well.

That picture shows my hair’s natural color and length. I do use various products though not for that picture (from recent Mexico vacation when I tried what they had in the shower dispenser). For my thin, very fine hair various shampoos and conditioners can help with curl only if I already have a perm.

I do miss having bangs. Just have to decide how long I’ll continue the experiment of growing them out. (I could go back to bangs, even without a perm.)

I was thinking about a post wash product - like a curl enhancer, curl cream, curl activator…..often applied while still wet or half dry.

I’ve tried a variety of product suggested by stylists. But certainly willing to try other - open to group suggestions.

I love R&Co’s Turntable curl creme.

I realized I never posted a pic. Here’s my hair blown out the best I can do it Usually it’s much wavier/curly because I usually let it air dry.

Love the color!

Thanks! It’s what my natural hair color looked like when I was young. I actually brought a photo of myself to my hairdresser and asked her to match it. If I didn’t color it, it would now be a mousy, lifeless, brown with more grey than I’d like, especially around the crown.
