Hey there, thanks for taking the time to read this.

While I would like to start from the beginning, that would take far too long. Long story short, I dropped out of school in the beginning of my sophomore year. I’ve made many mistakes, and didn’t return to school until my senior year. I then attended and graduated from a continuation high school. Upon graduating (a year later than scheduled) I worked full time before going to community college.

I have now spent two/three years dedicating my life to my schooling, trying to make up for the inevitable gaps in my education. I have completed 60 (will be closer to 90 upon transfer) UC transferable credits, and have a 3.8 gpa. Questions:

If I go through with “Academic Renewal” my grade will turn from a 3.8 to a 4.0. I have two F’s on the very beginning of my long transcript, from when I was a concurrent high school student. I dropped out of those classes as per recommendation by school staff, they believed night school would allow me to make up specific credits in a more timely manner. These two classes ARE NOT transferable. Should I go through with academic renewal?

I have 4 W’s on my transcripts. 2 in English, 2 in math. I have since completed these courses with an A, as well as upper division classes of the same subjects.

I hope to transfer as a psychology major, and would like to counsel students who having difficulty staying successful within school.

I have had a job for 1 1/2 of the years I attended Comm. College, resigning after my single father suffered a triple bypass & heart attack. I no longer am employed, as he has lost some mobility and eyesight, and it’s just the two of us. I continue to help him work from home.

I plan on applying this coming fall (around the same time I start volunteering with SuperStars Literacy) so my volunteer work will look minimal at the time of applications.

UC Berkeley would allow me to remain close to my dad, while still pursuing my education at a higher level. I meet the qualifications to TAG to UCD and UCSB, but those are too far from home. My back up is SF State. Please let me know of ANY advice you can give that would improve my chances at acceptance, I know it’s a long shot, but…I really want it.

Thank you for your time.
